Zooey Deschanel Joins HGTV Demo Thanks To Dating A Property Brother
In a new episode of HGTV’s Celebrity IOU, a new spinoff of Property Brothers where celebrities give back, it’s Zooey Deschanel’s turn to gift a home renovation to a deserving friend. The singer/songwriter/actress adds to her jill of all trades status by appearing alongside boyfriend Johnathan Scott -- who makes up half of the Property Brothers pair -- and hammering out a home reno.
It is said that Deschanel was originally just meant to mostly observe, but she wanted to be fully involved in the process. It may be, though, that she was just having too much fun immersing herself in Scott’s world, as in a People exclusive clip of the Celebrity IOU episode, Zooey Deschanel can be seen replacing a window with Jonathan Scott. She surely has earned some extra brownie points with the other half of the Property Brothers. This is probably smart, considering how close the brothers are. The new episodes start hitting the schedule on December 14.
By looking at their respective resumes, Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott may seem like an odd celebrity pairing. Hollywood knows no limits, though, and they both have such bold, comedic personalities that can easily blur genre lines. So I think it sort of fits.
The talented couple have been dating for just over a year, having announced their relationship shortly after Zooey Deschanel’s split with second husband, movie producer Jacob Pechenik, with whom she shares two children with. The new couple met when they appeared on James Corden's famous "Carpool Karaoke" together back in 2019 and seemingly immediately hit it off.
The couple got a leg up in the relationship by checking off meeting the family: they appeared on the fun-loving celebrity sketch each with their siblings, Jonathan with his twin brother Drew Scott and Zooey with her equally talented sister Emily Deschanel.
Zooey Deschanel’s dating history has been a hot topic in Hollywood ever since she starred in 500 Days of Summer alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The film was a hit, though Deschanel’s character was not. Fans have tended to project their feelings about Summer onto the actress and her own checkered romantic life.
It has been a lifetime since 500 Days of Summer, though, and this new relationship appears to be as refreshing and quirky as the actress is herself. It’s important to remember, too, that Deschanel is a person separate from the characters she plays - or else we would be quite concerned about the accident-prone Jessica Day wielding any type of power tool, on HGTV or otherwise.
