The Handmaid's Tale Already Renewed For Season 5 Before Season 4 Premiere
The Handmaid's Tale put Hulu on the map in a brand new way when it premiered back in 2017, so much so that it has already continued the story far beyond the events of Margaret Atwood's novel. The fourth season is on the way in the new year, and although Season 4 doesn't have a premiere date yet, fans are in for some good news. The Handmaid's Tale has already been renewed for a fifth season.
News of the Season 5 renewal was announced during the Disney Investor Day 2020 presentation. Here's the official good news:
Well, in case you were optimistic enough to think that June and her allies are going to come out on top after the fourth season, the renewal for Season 5 is a pretty good sign that their fight will have to continue for at least one more batch of episodes beyond the fourth. Unfortunately, The Handmaid's Tale was one of many shows that had to halt due to the pandemic, and it won't make a 2020 premiere date.
The Handmaid's Tale is expected to be ready for a 2021 premiere of Season 4, however, and the early renewal could be a sign that Season 5 could begin production sooner rather than later. Although the initial news broke courtesy of Disney, Hulu has released a video of the cast announcing Season 5, and they seem a whole lot more excited than their characters probably will be. Take a look!
Is this video confirmation that all the stars in the announcement will be back in Season 5, or at least survive the events of Season 4? Considering they were clearly in production on Season 4 when the video was filmed, fans may not want to assume that all of those actors will return for the fifth. Things can change quickly on The Handmaid's Tale, after all! At least there are some details available for what to expect in Season 4.
The fourth season of The Handmaid's Tale will see June striking back against Gilead in her role as a fierce rebel leader, and her quest for vengeance and justice threatens to consumer her and her most cherished relationships. In the process, she face unexpected and dangerous new challenges due to the risks she must take. Season 4 will run for ten episodes and release in 2021. For now, you can find the first three seasons streaming on Hulu, and more viewing options on our 2021 winter and spring premiere schedule.
