The Only Thing The Voice's Blake Shelton Actually Planned For His Proposal To Gwen Stefani
Fans of music supercouple Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton, both currently still mentoring contestants on Season 19 of The Voice, have been able to rejoice since the end of October, when the duo officially announced their engagement. Typically, celebrities come correct when they decide to get hitched, and have been known to have some wild and extravagant stories about how they popped the question. This is a weird year, though, so while Shelton did manage to make the moment really sweet for Stefani, he's now admitting that he only really planned one aspect of the proposal.
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have spent much of quarantine down on his ranch in Oklahoma with her three sons, Kingston, 14, Zuma, 12, and Apollo, 6. It turns out that having her family around led Shelton to make sure that the proposal was a big ol' family affair. After being asked if he'd planned exactly what he was going to say during his proposal to Stefani, Shelton told The Bobby Bones Show:
It seems pretty clear that Stefani and Shelton both value being able to surround themselves with family, especially on important occasions, so it make a lot of sense that he'd want as many of those people around as possible when he popped the question. As far as Stefani's children with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale go, because of the amount of time Shelton has been spending with them this year, he's already admitted that he's been navigating the, sometimes "scary," process of helping to parent them. I can only imagine that it would have been odd for them if he had chosen to whisk his girlfriend of five years away in order to propose.
Apparently, the couple has been able to spend several holidays with a lot of their extended family, including their siblings and their spouses and children, so all Blake Shelton really wanted when preparing the actual proposal was to make sure those folks could be included in their big moment. Of course, there were certainly other parts of the whole process that he did put quite a lot of thought into, as we've finally gotten a great look at the ring he gave Stefani, which is reportedly a custom-designed, 6-carat solitaire diamond worth around $500,000.
The romance doesn't stop there, either, as Shelton is said to have gone a traditional route with his pre-proposal planning, and took the time to get the blessing of Stefani's dad before trying to make their relationship extra official.
The Voice wraps up Season 19 with the second part of its live finale, tonight, December 15, on NBC at 8 p.m. EST. Be sure to stay tuned to CinemaBlend for the latest on Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton and everything else in TV, movies and pop culture!
