Mark Hamill Gave The Perfect Reaction To The Mandalorian Season 2 Finale
Major spoilers for the season finale of The Mandalorian – “Chapter 16: The Rescue” – lie ahead so, if you haven’t seen it and choose to continue, may the Force be with you.
The Mandalorian Season 2 did the impossible by improving on an already impressive show. The storytelling and action were top notch and, when necessary, the series knew how to deliver some emotional gut punches. This was especially true in the mind-blowing season finale and, now, Star Wars alum Mark Hamill has weighed in on the amazing episode.
The season finale of The Mandalorian saw Din Djarin and his allies (Cara Dune, Fennec Shand, Bo-Katan Kryze and Koska Reeves) took the fight to Moff Gideon, as they located and infiltrated his cruiser to rescue Grogu (Baby Yoda). It was a hard-fought battle that saw Mando face off with a powerful Dark Trooper before going toe to toe with Moff Gideon, who was wielding the Darksaber. While Mando emerged victorious, the group found themselves trapped on the bridge by a squad of Dark Troopers. But in a major surprise, they were saved by none other than Mark Hamill’s (de-aged) Luke Skywalker, who arrived to take Grogu.
Mark Hamill, who filmed the scene a while ago, first posted a cheeky Twitter response to his awesome cameo. However, he later returned to the platform to express his amazement over the fact that the team behind The Mandalorian was able to keep a lid on the reveal for so long:
In the age of social media, it’s easy for major spoilers to slip out and, in some cases, cast and crew members can inadvertently reveal major developments. Luckily, those who tuned into The Mandalorian’s season finale upon its debut were able to enjoy Luke Skywalker’s explosive appearance with fresh eyes.
Hamill’s involvement really comes as a surprise because the actor previously stated that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker would mark his final time playing the character. He previously posted a few emotional messages on social media in which he said farewell to his beloved character. He also further explained that he believed Luke Skywalker’s story to be finished and that he didn’t want to be greedy by trying to keep the character alive.
Luckily, it seems The Mandalorian’s Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni were able to convince him to don his lightsaber once more. And after seeing the cool and emotional moment, it’s not hard to see why Hamill would have felt compelled to come back.
