The Boys' Jack Quaid Gets Fans Pumped About Season 3 Starting Production
The Boys finished airing its wild second season on Amazon back in October 2020, and it was a major hit for the streamer despite some early fan frustration about the release schedule. Now, star Jack Quaid is starting out the new year by hyping fans up for the third season with a social media post that bodes well for The Boys getting back into production.
Jack Quaid, who plays Hughie Campbell on The Boys, took to Instagram to share a tease for fans who may already be craving details about what's on the way:
As of January 5, Jack Quaid was on his way to begin work on The Boys Season 3, with a selection of emojis including a knife, a croissant, a bottle of milk, and flexing arm muscles. Quaid didn't drop details about when filming will actually begin with the image of his travels, but heading to work on Season 3 at least indicates that the third season is on schedule, as filming was expected to begin in early 2021. Plus, Quaid is wearing a Young Frankenstein shirt featuring Gene Wilder, and what could be bad about that?
A number of other Boys actors commented on Jack Quaid's post. Shawn Ashmore, who may not be able to return in Season 3 short of flashbacks, posted "Go get em!!!!!" with Aya Cash (whose character wasn't well off at the end of Season 2 either) giving a heart eye emoji reaction to the Young Frankenstein shirt. Laz Alonso, who plays the unforgettable Mother's Milk, wished Quaid some "Safe travels!" and P.J. Byrne showed his support as well.
Jack Quaid followed the post up with an Instagram Story that shows him rocking out to The Coup's "Anitra's Basement Tapes" with the caption "Canadian Quarantine Night 1." Between the Instagram Story and Quaid's mask in the photo he shared from the plane, it seems that The Boys will be adhering to pandemic protocols when it comes to production on Season 3.
So, what's on the way with Season 3 of The Boys? Shortly after the Season 2 finale, showrunner Eric Kripke promised that "payback" is on the way, and that fans aren't "fucking ready" for what's in store. Kripke has also said that he's worried about how much he's enjoying writing for the third season, which will incorporate former Supernatural star Jensen Ackles playing a very different character from who he portrayed for 15 seasons on Kripke's previous series.
As for Jack Quaid's Hughie, he was attempting to go in a fresh direction following the carnage of Season 2 by working for a congresswoman, but the reveal to viewers that the congresswoman is actually a murderous Supe herself indicates that Hughie won't be sitting on the sidelines for long. A Boys spinoff could be on the way as well to introduce even more Supes. While fans wait for more details, Quaid has at least confirmed that Season 3 is moving forward.
