Watch The WandaVision And Frozen Songwriters Sing A Montage Of '80s Sitcom Themes To Brighten Your Day
WandaVision has only just begun but it's already a show that everybody is talking about. It's the first entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that fans have seen in a year and a half, but it's also a very unusual entry that has a compelling mystery at the center of it, surrounded by an absolutely delightful TV sitcom premise that is as funny as it is strange. However, if there's one element that I've already fallen in love with regarding the sitcom structure of each episode, it's the fact that each episode has its own unique theme song designed to reflect the era the episode is set in.
To write each of those classic sitcom themes, Marvel brought in the songwriting duo behind the Frozen movies, Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. I had a chance to speak with the two of them recently and I asked them if there was a particular era of sitcom theme that they enjoyed writing more than another. As both of them were born in the 1970s, they came of age watching TV in the '80s and so they had a particular affinity for the '80s sitcom theme, which resulted in them singing a number of their favorites for me. It was, without question, one of the most fun experiences I've had in an interview. Check it out in the video above.
If you're having difficulty finding motivation today, look no further than the creative talents behind the two Frozen movies singing a line from your favorite '80s sitcom. It was honestly glorious just to sit there and listen to them sing. I would have just let them continue for the entirety of our time together if they wanted to just keep singing.
But now it also has me super excited to hear what Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez came up with for the '80s episode of WandaVision. It's going to be a few more weeks before we know for sure, as this week's episode is set in the 1960s and one assumes we'll get at least one episode set in the 1970s before we get to that one. But if you grew up watching Silver Spoons or Diff'rent Strokes, you'll likely enjoy whatever we end up hearing.
Kristen Anderson-Lopez also mentions another show that was not a sitcom, but still helped inspire their work for WandaVision. The Greatest American Hero was a superhero show from the early 1980s that had an absolutely killer theme song. If the WandaVision '80s theme is as catchy as that show's theme song was, we might be in for an earworm that we won't be able to easily get out of our heads.
This Friday will see the third episode of WandaVision hit Disney+, and it will be opened by the third theme song. I've already heard that one; you guys are in for a treat.
