Jared Padalecki gained a lot from his 15-season run on The CW’s Supernatural. Not only did it provide him with a starring role and a place in the fabric of pop culture, but it also introduced him to his eventual wife, Genevieve. The two first started working together during the show’s fourth season and would eventually tie the knot. With Supernatural now over, the two continue to be co-stars in The CW’s Walker, Texas Ranger reboot, Walker. Having a spouse who’s also your co-worker is a rare thing, and Genevieve Padalecki has opened up about what it’s like to work with her hubby on the new show.
On Supernatural, Genevieve Padalecki played the demon Ruby, who trained Jared Padalecki’s Sam Winchester to kill demons with the use of his own demonic abilities. Walker puts the married couple in a much more grounded situation that hits very close to home. Padalecki plays the late wife of her husband’s titular character, Cordell Walker. Although there can be growing pains when it comes to spouses working together, Genevieve Padalecki refers to it as “a vacation” and believes that in the long run, it actually helps her marriage:
It's a vacation for sure. It's really, really nice being back. We met working together and it's how we fell in love, was working together. I honestly feel like we are at our best when we are working together, which I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing! But we both really love to work and we're hard workers and continually like to challenge each other and amplify each other. We're very curious and we're constantly trying to grow, and it's a great opportunity for us to be able to do that and then go home. It honestly helps our relationship.
Genevieve Padalecki provided an interesting perspective to ET, as it appears that she only finds positives from working alongside her husband. When you think about it, working with a spouse in a work setting can definitely have some positive effects on a marriage. Working together can help a couple work on their problem-solving skills, which can be applied to some aspects of their domestic life. This could be the kind of growth Padalecki was referring to.
Of course, Genevieve and Jared Padalecki are far from the only spouses to ever work with each other on the big and small screens. Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis worked alongside each other for years on the set of That ‘70s Show. Though the two weren’t actually together during their time on the show, the working dynamic they built may have helped in their romantic relationship. Despite this, Kunis has said that because she’s so familiar with Kutcher, it’s difficult to act with him.
In the film world, John Krasinski and Emily Blunt collaborated on the A Quiet Place films, with Krasinski also serving as director of the movies. The two have spoken about how they enjoyed the experiences, and Blunt finds their experience on the sequel to be particularly special.
So it would seem that the results can vary when famous couples work together. But so far, it seems like it’s been smooth sailing for Jared and Genevieve Padalecki, and it shows in their on-screen chemistry.
