Did NCIS Subtly Reveal A Major Change With Bishop And Torres?
Warning! The following contains spoilers for the NCIS episode "1mm". Read at your own risk!
NCIS had just finished putting its team in harm's way in the previous episode, and sad to say things weren't any better for Ellie Bishop in the follow-up. The agent had only just managed to survive a plane explosion only to be locked in the cell of a domestic terrorist. The only positive this time around was that she wasn't in it alone and had her ride-or-die buddy Nick Torres along for the ride. The two faced bad odds and dangerous circumstances, but by the episode's end, I think it may have been subtly revealed that the two are much closer than ever.
At the very least, the two were closer than they were at the episode's beginning, as they squabbled and were passive-aggressive even after they were trapped in the jail cells. Eventually, the two began to talk, and through their talking and slow realization that this adventure could very well be their last together, they began to share some real feelings. They went about as far toward professing their feelings for one another as they could without actually saying the words, though even then I doubted it was enough for Torres and Bishop to get the picture and finally pull the trigger.
That changed at the episode's end, which seemed to show a passage of time as McGee was happily back at work with an uninjured arm when he had been in a sling at home the scene prior. Bishop made her way over to Torres during the scene and gave him a look that certainly seemed like something romantic could be going on, if you ask me. Take a gander at that "look" for yourself, and read on for why I think the two could be secretly dating.
While it is true that Torres and Bishop stopped short of revealing their actual feelings for each other on screen during the NCIS episode, the presumed time jump and message Torres shared with McGee had me curious. Torres told McGee that "close calls make you live harder," and if you look at all that Bishop and Torres have gone through in the past couple of seasons, they've had a few close calls.
Bishop and Torres have seemingly had feelings for each other but hidden them for some time. It's always been a question of when one will open up, and with Torres' "live harder" message, I'm curious whether or not he took his own advice and finally confessed his feelings for Ellie. She, of course, would confirm she feels the same and they'd be happily ever after in this scenario.
If that were happening, though, why would they keep it on the down-low? My guess is they're aware of the creep factor of them getting together amongst the NCIS staff, in which I believe Kasie described it as a brother and sister getting together. Plus, there's nothing wrong with wanting to keep things private from coworkers, just in case things don't work out. Of course, I could definitely be reading too deeply into one look, and we may be in for yet another tease that Bishop and Torres will get together that goes nowhere even though now would've been the perfect time to make it happen already.
