Disney+’s expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is in full swing right about now. With WandaVision already done and dusted, there are questions about just what this new era of serialized content will mean for the MCU going forward. Just as we’re about to dive into the espionage-filled world of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier with its debuts on Friday, there’s a new tease for a more outlandish corner of this shared universe. If you have a moment, we’d like to talk about something fun we noticed in the new poster for Loki, specifically what’s up with that wild logo for the show.
Now we’ve already seen that the logo to Loki is a mixed bag of various fonts and iconography that make up the name of Tom Hiddleston’s trickster god. And it was a point that was driven all the more home when we finally saw the first trailer for the series, which showed us more than this final variation of letters and icons making up the name. But the plot details we got in the limited, but intriguing look at Loki do seem to tell us just why the logo is stylized as such. First, let’s take a look at that poster and bask in the glow of Mr. Hiddleston’s mischievous visage:
So why is Loki’s logo made up of such a wild assortment, be it the stationary title or the GIF-friendly variant that is shown in the Disney+ teaser trailer? Well, as we’ve previously noted, this is a series that takes place in an alternate timeline where Loki has absconded with The Tesseract that houses the Space Stone, as seen in Avengers: Endgame. That moment, while not originally intended to kick off the story of Loki, is undoubtedly a focal point, as it leads to our anti-hero’s incarceration and eventual teaming with the Time Variance Authority, or TVA for short.
The TVA are basically time cops, except with a noted absence of Jean-Claude Van Damme and a very noted presence of Luke Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius. So basically, Loki is primed to see all sorts of temporal craziness, thanks to the fact that he’s not supposed to even have The Tesseract or even be alive at this point, according to the events of the MCU. That’s not going to stop the resident thorn in the side of Thor, Asgard and even the Avengers from getting up to some stuff, as you can see in that gloriously purposeful trailer:
Loki is going to do everything from further rewrite Marvel Cinematic Universe history to dropping Tom Hiddleston into various situations that require him to dress as sharply as any MCU villain could hope. Also, Loki may or may not be D.B. Cooper, so that’s something else to consider, as the course of time is bent and altered into whatever course Thor’s adopted brother and his TVA cohorts see fit. Loki starts on June 11th, only on Disney+; so now’s a good time to get in on a subscription and catch up on all of the relevant MCU fun before the big event. Also, c’mon, who can resist the opportunity to binge that maniacal smile?
