The Falcon And The Winter Soldier’s Wyatt Russell Talks That Time He Auditioned To Play Captain America
Spoilers ahead for the second episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s Wyatt Russell made his presence known in Episode 2 after fans got a preview in Episode 1. While the jury is still out on John Walker, the actor has been championing the new Captain America. Promoting the Disney+ miniseries led to a huge revelation that connected the newly minted MCU star even closer to the original Captain America. Russell talked about auditioning to play Captain America in the preliminary stages of the MCU.
This new piece of information came courtesy of Wyatt Russell’s Good Morning America interview. Ironically, John Walker is interviewed by the morning show after becoming the new Captain America. The surreal moment led to the GMA crew pointing out that Russell previously auditioned to play Steve Rogers before Chris Evans assumed the role. Russell talked about auditioning to be part of the MCU:
For Captain America: The First Avenger to be Wyatt Russell’s first audition, he must’ve been on someone’s radar to even get in the room. It doesn’t hurt that his parents are Hollywood royalty Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, and his siblings are Kate and Oliver Hudson. Acting is the family business. He even hinted at Marvel’s well-known secrecy as he didn’t know he was auditioning for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier until he got the part. To hear more about Russell’s full-circle moment, check out GMA’s tweet below:
Given the revelation, things might’ve gone differently if Wyatt Russell was Captain America instead of Chris Evans. Can you imagine what Russell’s physique would have looked like as Marvel’s First Avenger? Would he have leaned more into Steve Rogers or John Walker? There are so many questions.
But as seen in Episode 2, Wyatt Russell (or more specifically, John Walker) is more than capable of taking on the Captain America mantle, for now. There are still more episodes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier to watch. By the end, Marvel fans will be able to deliver their final verdict.
Hopefully, as more episodes come out, Marvel fans will either warm up to Wyatt Russell or hate his guts by the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The introduction of John Walker created some much-needed tension in the series to see who deserves the mantle – Walker, Sam Wilson or Bucky Barnes. That battle, if it happens, will be worth the wait. But John Walker’s introduction might mean Russell will integrate into the MCU after the series ends. Only Marvel and Russell may know that answer.
