Why The Masked Singer's Cluedle-Doo Hasn't Helped Me One Bit
Warning! The following contains spoilers for The Masked Singer Group A Finals. Read at your own risk!
We are six episodes into Season 5 of The Masked Singer, and I really feel let down by Cluedle-Doo. The mysterious rooster has lurked in the shadows since the season's start and promised he'd provide extra intel and insight on the identities of the season's competitors. So far, he's delivered squat, and I'm starting to get annoyed.
Cluedle-Doo has tons of cameras in the most hidden of places on The Masked Singer set, and yet somehow he was of no help tonight in helping me discover that The Orca was Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath. That's the same story with every reveal so far, as each and every clue has been as meaningless as any other clue that emerges outside the clue packages.
Really, what Cluedle-Doo has been so far is a host that's essentially a second Nick Cannon. Of course, Cluedle-Doo is not Nick Cannon, as he was unmasked as one of the Wild Card performers last week after he was out with COVID-19. So far, Cluedle-Doo's identity has been a mystery, with no information one way or another on who he may be.
That's more frustrating because the character revealed in the premiere that we as viewers of The Masked Singer are supposed to guess his/her identity as well. This character doesn't even have clue packages, and they're terrible at giving out clues on other competitors, so how in the hell am I ever going to guess Cluedle-Doo's identity?
I'm also generally confused by the whole role Cluedle-Doo plays in The Masked Singer. Are Robin Thicke and the rest of the panel aware of this villain lurking in the shadows? What value does this gimmick bring to the show in the long haul?
With this week bringing an end to the wild cards, we're due for some sort of shift in the competition. My hope and assumption is that we'll see some more interference or fun involving Cluedle-Doo, and more clues as to who exactly this may be. My guess is that it's someone who is pretty famous but also wanted no part of the whole singing commitment. They also may not have a lot of spare time to appear on the show since the clue packages are often done by actors who aren't the actual celebrities.
