NBC’s medical drama, New Amsterdam, has been aroller coaster this season. A few weeks ago, one of the original characters resigned from New Amsterdam Medical Center, and now Anupam Kher, who portrayed Dr. Vijay Kapoor, is sharing a heartfelt message with fans following his shocking exit.

He also thanked fans for their continued support and wishes for his wife, who has been diagnosed with cancer. He noted:

Earlier this month, Anupam Kher confirmed his wife’s cancer diagnosis, and this message seems to confirm it's the reason why the actor left the medical drama. Kher had been on New Amsterdam since the show’s beginning, which made it hard for the fans to say goodbye. But after reading Kher’s statement, it looks like it wasn’t easy for him either and New Amsterdam will always have a place in his heart.
Dr. Kapoor had been through a lot this season. The character was recovering from COVID-19 and heart surgery, so the storylines were a perfect way to kill him off.
