Disney Is Already Celebrating Halloween With Early Look At Remake Of Very First DCOM
Checking out Disney Channel over Halloween has famously been a fun time. Between special episodes of our favorite TV shows going spooky, to special presentations of family favorites like Casper and Hotel Transylvania, to DCOM favorites like Halloweentown, Descendants, and Zombies. Believe it or not, the holiday is now just six months away, and Disney Channel is celebrating with a first look at its upcoming movie Under Wraps.
Nostalgic Disney fans may know Under Wraps as the 1997 film that became the first ever Disney Channel Original Movie before the studio became more well known for other TV films like Zenon, Cadet Kelly and Get A Clue. Under Wraps is currently in production as a contemporary comedic remake to the movie, which will be about an accidentally revived mummy who runs loose thanks to three 12-year-old best friends.
As the above exclusive first look at Under Wraps shares, this DCOM is currently being made ahead of its release later this year. The movie will star young talent, Sydney To The Max’s Christian J. Simon, Stuck in the Middle’s Malachi Barton, and The Social Dilemma’s Sophia Hammons as the core friends, and world-renowned dancer and choreographer Phil Wright as the mummy.
The movie looks like an all around fun time as Phil Wright’s mummy is seen dancing around in the behind-the-scenes footage as its young cast share how they’ve been bonding on set. It seems like there will be a number of memorable sequences, one including the mummy being dragged by a car in another BTS moment in the first look.
The Under Wraps story has been reimagined to be about three pals, Gilbert, Marshall and Amy, who mistakenly bring a mummy to life in their neighbor’s basement just a few days before Halloween. The friends are then tasked with nabbing the mummy and returning him to his resting place before midnight on Halloween. While on their unexpected mission, the group will come across a group of criminals who want to get to the mummy first, to sell it.
The movie is being directed by Alex Zamm, who previously helmed 2007’s The Haunting Hour: Don’t Think About It, which starred Hannah Montana’s Emily Osment during her own Disney Channel days. Zamm also directed Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2 and A Christmas Prince for Netflix.
Before Under Wraps premieres later this year, DCOM fans can get pumped for Halloween six months early with Disney Channel’s “Halfway To Halloween” night of programming happening this Saturday, May 1 at 7pm ET/PT. During the night, there will be more special looks at Under Wraps, along with Halloween-themed episodes for Big City Greens, Raven’s Home, and Jessie, along with a showing of the original 1998 flick, Halloweentown. Anyone else ready to get started on their Halloween costume between “Halfway To Halloween” and the actual spooky night?
