Since Levine departed The Voice, viewers have missed the banter between the rocker and the country superstar. But that doesn’t mean Shelton and Levine have stopped playfully calling each other out. Recently, Levine admitted he missed trolling Shelton after trash-talking his and Gwen Stefani’s marriage plans.
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s wedding has been in the making for months. Given the couple’s Hollywood status, their guest list is bound to be start-studded, including former Voice coach Adam Levine. But apparently, the Maroon 5 frontman isn’t fully sold on their wedding plans. Levine did some trash-talking about the impending nuptials of current and former Voice coaches Shelton and Stefani on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Levine: I don’t support their marriage. I’m the guy, ‘Does anybody object?’ She’s so cool. And he’s not.Ellen: He’s not cool? But he’s very funny and very smart.Levine: He’s vaguely charming. I missed this. I missed making so much fun of him.Ellen: You’ll go to the wedding and do it.Levine: I’ll go to the wedding. I’ll go to the wedding and object. I probably won’t be invited now. Let’s just crash.
After Adam Levine’s statement, Ellen DeGeneres agreed to be a part of the singer’s madness. I sympathized with the singer as a fan of The Voice. Until Levine’s departure, you could count on every season that Blake Shelton and Levine's adversarial friendship would play out for viewers every week. At times, it was hilarious. At other times, it could be annoying. But years after Levine left the NBC competition series, fans still crave some Levine/Shelton banter.
Despite Adam Levine and Blake Shelton’s ongoing “feud,” Shelton has found new sparring partners in his absence. In recent seasons, the country superstar has constantly gone head-to-head with fellow coaches Kelly Clarkson and John Legend. Legend’s talent and musical pedigree have become a thorn in Shelton’s side with the country star always usurping the EGOT recipient. With Clarkson, it’s more personal as the pop star shared management with Shelton for years as well as their Nashville connections. Clarkson and Shelton’s banter comes off as more “big brother-little sister” teasing each other on broadcast television. But it isn’t the same as the former co-workers’ long-simmering “feud.”
While Adam Levine misses his television banter with Blake Shelton, fans shouldn’t hold their breath to see the Maroon 5 frontman return to The Voice. Earlier this year, the singer stated he wasn’t planning on returning to the NBC show anytime soon.
Despite him not returning to The Voice, Adam Levine will be on Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani’s wedding guest list when the moment comes. Imagine Levine’s toast at the nuptials. Chaos would be on the horizon. While the singer isn’t on the show anymore, viewers can still enjoy The Voice as it celebrates its tenth anniversary on May 3 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
