Supergirl’s Chyler Leigh Reveals The Scene That Made Her Cry In Her Directorial Debut
Spoilers ahead for Supergirl Season 6, Episode 6 “Prom Again!”
For the latest episode of Supergirl, one star went from being in front of the camera to behind it. Chyler Leigh, who portrays Alex Danvers on the superhero series, made her directorial debut with this episode from the final season, and there's one scene that made her quite emotional.
This week’s episode of Supergirl, “Prom Again!”, is a continuation of the previous week’s, which saw Nia and Brainy head to 2009 to find a way to get Kara out of the Phantom Zone. And while there, the two meet up with young Alex and Kara. While Chyler Leigh loved being able to tell part of the Danvers sisters' origin story, she also loved directing the characters’ makeshift prom on board the Legion of Superheroes’ ship. Here's what the Grey’s Anatomy told TheWrap when recalling her initial reaction to the scene and another one from the episode:
Young Alex and Kara, brilliantly played by Olivia Nikkanen and Izabela Vidovic, might as well be younger versions of Chyler Leigh and Melissa Benoist. Leigh admitted that the young actresses had such a grip on the characters that she didn’t have to give too many notes. There’s no telling if we’ll be able to see more of young Alex and Kara before the series comes to an end later this year but, should the showrunners get their way, it’s possible that we could see them in a potential spinoff at some point in the future.
Behind the scenes, the final season of Supergirl logged another major accomplishment, which marks a milestone for the Arrowverse. Azie Tesfai, who plays Kelly Olsen on the show, co-wrote Episode 12 of the superhero series. This is the first time a series regular has ever penned an episode of a show created by Greg Berlanti. This is pretty impressive, especially when you consider that Berlanti has not only developed nearly all of the Arrowverse shows but has also created others like Eli Stone, Brothers & Sisters and You.
Supergirl is pulling out all the stops for its final season. On top of going back in time and seeing younger versions of Alex, Kara, and even Cat Grant, fans will be able to look forward to some surprise returns to National City in the present and Team Supergirl (hopefully) freeing Kara from the Phantom Zone.
The mid-season finale of Supergirl airs Tuesday, May 11 at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
