Samuel L. Jackson's MCU Show Secret Invasion Just Added A Happy Gilmore Star
With Marvel and Disney+’s Loki set to make its highly-anticipated debut in a couple of weeks, another Marvel series is just getting started. Marvel’s Secret Invasions, starring Samuel L. Jackson who will be reprising his iconic MCU role as Nick Fury the former director of S.H.I.E.L.D., has added another cast member to its growing roster. A Happy Gilmore star is trading in his golf club for something much bigger.
Deadline learned that Christopher McDonald, known as Shooter McGavin in Adam Sandler’s classic flick, Happy Gilmore, has been added to the upcoming Marvel series for Disney+. McDonald joins Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn, who will also reprise his MCU role as the Skrull Talos. Talos and Fury first met in Captain Marvel, and the crossover comic event series “showcases a faction of shape-shifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years.”
Since it is Marvel, details about McDonald’s role are being kept underwraps. However, his character is reportedly a newly created one that could crossover to the larger part of the MCU, with appearances in movies or other Disney+ series in the future.
While not confirmed yet, Secret Invasion is also expected to add Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Kingsley Ben-Adir and Killian Scott to the cast. Despite the Marvel and Disney+ series still being in its early days, the already strong cast is proving that Secret Invasion is not one to miss. Disney+’s Marvel lineup has proven to be successful with WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and with the upcoming Loki and many more series in the near future, Secret Invasion will no doubt be up there as well.
Samuel L. Jackson’s Secret Invasion was first announced last December along with multiple new Marvel Disney+ shows. The storyline of Secret Invasion continues what was started in Captain Marvel and revealed in Spider-Man: Far From Home. However, it’s unknown when Secret Invasion will take place or how far back it would take place, seeing that Captain Marvel was set in the ‘90s and the events of Avengers: Endgame and anything after is set in the year 2023 or after.
Besides Happy Gilmore, Christopher McDonald can be seen recurring on the new HBO Max comedy series Hacks and co-starring in the indie feature Walking With Herb. He was also recently seen in the Netflix movie We Can Be Heroes, which received high praise from fans and critics and received sequel news soon after the release.
There’s no telling when Samuel L. Jackson’s Secret Invasion is set to premiere or even when the cast is supposed to be finalized. Marvel is known for doing things in secrecy, but they are also known for bringing big names on board. Just who else is going to join this already amazing cast and portray iconic Marvel characters?
