WWE Vet CM Punk Shared A Wild Story About Robin Williams That Would Make Anybody Smile
Professional wrestlers have shared enough stories over the years to make it clear to fans that their lives are pretty wild in all kinds of ways. WWE and UFC vet CM Punk probably isn't one of the first wrestlers that a fan would think of when it comes to bonkers anecdotes, though after he recently revealed an extremely unique encounter with Robin Williams, he may be in contention for the craziest wrestler story of all time.
CM Punk, whose real name is Phillip Brooks, appeared on the Wrestling Perspective Podcast and revealed a pretty bizarre story centering on a chance meeting with the legendary comedian and actor Robin Williams, although it probably wasn't such a bizarre experience for Williams himself. Unlike most celebrity meet-up stories, this one didn't occur at a red carpet gala, and Punk wasn't even out in public, but was actually in bed and asleep. To add an extra layer of eccentricity to the story, this all occurred when Punk was crashing at Rancid lead singer Lars Frederiksen's house. In the athlete's words:
The fact that Robin Williams did any of that to CM Punk is hilarious enough, considering they weren't friends in any capacity, but Punk's response really sent the story over the top. It's totally understandable that he'd want to tackle someone who woke him up in such a shocking manner, but it's a bold move to sleepily continue chasing them out into the street even after coming to the conclusion that though to chase them out into the street, especially after realizing it was an Oscar-winning superstar. Admittedly, it's the type of behavior that CM Punk has built a career out of, save for the Oscar-winning aspect.
On the flip side, Jimmy Superfly Snuka-ing a motherfucker was also well within Robin Williams' wellhouse of antics, even though the highly physical actor only briefly crossed with the WWE in his career. Williams was a part of the organization's Tribute To The Troops special in 2011, with the main evidence of that being a hilarious promo he cut while giving off some serious wrestler vibes. It's a shame WWE fans never got a chance to see him in the ring, as it likely would've been wildly entertaining!
Robin Williams tragically died in August of 2014, so it's surprising that CM Punk's hilarious story is only being shared with with fans of wrestling and Williams (as well as Rancid's lead singer, I suppose). As mentioned, Punk's relationship with Lars Frederiksen seemed to be a reason why he hadn't publicly shared the story until recently, which really makes one wonder what other stories CM Punk might be sitting on.
WWE Monday Night Raw airs on USA on Mondays at 8:00 p.m. ET, with SmackDown airing on Fox every Friday night at 8:00 p.m. ET. I wouldn't expect to see CM Punk on either show anytime soon, and it doesn't look like fellow former UFC fight Georges St-Pierre is going to make a WWE splash soon, either.
