For all the questionable TV revivals, spinoffs and reboots that have come about in recent years, relatively few feel as inherently justifiable as any and all extensions to the beloved Mythbusters franchise. Though the unscripted hit's hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman busted their last myths together back in 2016, the brand has lived on, and will be rejuvenated in a big way for the upcoming streaming series Motor Mythbusters, with former Build Team member Tory Bellici as one of the new show's hosts.
Get ready for an all new season of vehicular madness and explosive chaos when Motor Mythbusters hits the streaming TV highway on Wednesday, August 4, through the MotorTrend App, fittingly enough. In the new series, Tory Bellici will be joined by professional race car driver Bisi Ezerioha and mechanic Faye Hadley, whom fans might recognize from MotorTrend's series All Girls Garage. No word on whether or not the new show will have Adam Savage, Jamie Hyneman or Kari Byron on as guest stars at any point, but that would be a welcomed surprise.
To be expected, the new Motor Mythbusters series won't be too far removed from the original program, and it'll feature its central three hosts trying to answer the biggest questions out there about cars, buses, and even UFOs. (Or at least the questions that can be put to some kind of test.) There are experiments involving real-world theories, such as whether cutting the top off of one's car will make it faster and more aerodynamic, as well as segments that will focus entirely on fictionalized plot points from major Hollywood movies. Mythbusters does love the pop culture zeitgeist, it's true.
Wondering whether or not Matthew Broderick's Ferris Bueller was onto something when he tried to reverse the odometer numbers on the Ferrari? That'll get covered. Could The Flintstones' cars actually work with real people? We'll get an answer for that, too. In fact, one episode from the series' first season will take on an infamous Fast and Furious franchise stunt, as the team will test the legitimacy of the eighth film's use of nitrous oxide, an aluminum can tab and wire.

It's awesome to see the Mythbusters franchise live on in such an interesting way, especially since it's been a while since any good news was revealed. 2020 was a particularly hard year due to the untimely death of former co-star Grant Imahara, with the silver lining of a STEM-focused foundation being set up in his name after he died. The year before, former Build Team member Jessi Combs was killed in a crash during an attempt to break the land-speed record for female drivers, an honor that she was granted posthumously.
Tory Bellici, Kari Byron and Grant Imahara were unfortunately booted from the O.G. series ahead of its final season on Discovery, though the three continued to work together for the single season of Netflix's White Rabbit Project, which was not an official Mythbusters offshoot. Science Channel attempted to reboot the original with a new cast, resulting in the lone season of Mythbusters: The Search, while Adam Savage returned to the franchise for the short-lived kid-centric series Mythbusters Jr. So even though this new project has the caveat of being tethered entirely to motorized myths, this will likely be the closest thing to the original series that fans will get.
Fans can look forward to seeing the Mythbusters franchise return to TV on Wednesday, August 4, when Motor Mythbusters debuts on the MotorTrend app. Mark that down along with all the other noteworthy dates in the 2021 Summer TV schedule.
