Keeping Up With The Kardashians bid farewell after 20 seasons on television, and while the final episodes were more or less rehashing the show's past and what it meant to the Kardashian/Jenner clan, the finale was not devoid of new information. Kim Kardashian did her best to avoid answering questions on camera about her deteriorating relationship with her husband Kanye West all season but finally opened up in the finale.
Audiences in the present knew that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West filing for divorce was on the way, but her personal thoughts and feelings on the matter have largely come secondhand until now. Now, Kardashian seemingly shared her honest thoughts on why her relationship with West wasn't working, and it came in her decision to live a fulfilled, blissful life going forward. Kardashian talked to her mother, Kris Jenner, about that life and the problem with it at the time of filming.
...But am I just gonna sit here and think ‘Okay, my kids fulfill me, and I’m good’? And then I never thought I was lonely – I always thought that’s totally fine. I could just have my kids, my husband moves from state to state – and I just – I’m on this ride with him, and I was okay with that. And then, after turning 40 this year, I realized, like, no, I don’t want a husband that lives in a completely different state. To me, I thought ‘Oh, my God, that’s when we’re getting along the best,’ but then that is sad to me. And that’s not what I want.
Kim Kardashian admitted the arrangement in which she and Kanye West were living in different states had a positive impact on their relationship, but that she didn't want that. Kardashian's comments, though she explicitly didn't say it, seem to imply there were problems when the two were living together or in the same place. Kardashian evidently decided she was fine with their arrangement until she wasn't, and I'm sure few Keeping Up With The Kardashian fans would disagree with her logic.
It seemed like COVID-19 played some role in Kim Kardashian's thinking, as she shared with mom Kris Jenner what she ideally wanted out of her husband. At least, this is what she wants going forward at 40, and it would appear Kanye West (even if he's a good father) wasn't willing to give that.
I want someone that we have the same shows in common. I want someone that wants to work out with me. Like, every single day, Khloe, Tristan and I would work out at 6 a.m., the three of us, and I was third-wheeling it for a good eight months in quarantine. And I was so envious of that. I was like ‘Wow.’ It’s like, the little things is what I don’t have. I have all the big things. I have the extravagant everything you could imagine, and no one will ever do it like that. I know that... And I’m grateful for those experiences, but I think I’m ready for the smaller experiences that I think will mean a lot.
Kanye West could give Kim Kardashian a hologram of her late father for her birthday, but she wants the little things as well. The little things may be hard to deliver when living states apart like Kanye West and his wife were. The silver lining would seemingly be that the decision was motivated by Kardashian's attempt to be happy, as far as we know from the series.
Keeping Up With The Kardashians is over, though the tell-all with Andy Cohen is set to kick off with Andy Cohen on E! Thursday, June 17 at 8:00 p.m. ET. More insight will come on the Kardashians and their personal lives, and I'm personally wondering if tonight's episode means that Kim Kardashian doesn't like Rick and Morty.
