How Amazon’s Jack Reacher Will Deliver A Smallville Cast Reunion
After spending some time on the big screen, the character of Jack Reacher is headed to the small screen in a new show that will stream on Amazon Prime. The character was played by Tom Cruise in the character’s cinematic outings but will now be portrayed by Alan Ritchson, who seems to be a nice fit for the role. The physically imposing actor is currently known for his role on DC’s Titans, on which he plays Hank Hall/Hawk. However, years ago, he was known to superhero fans as Arthur Curry/Aquaman on Smallville. And now, it looks like Jack Reacher is going to give Ritchson a reunion, as the show has picked up another Smallville alum.
In Amazon Prime’s Jack Reacher series, Alan Ritchson will be joined by none other than Kristin Kreuk, who Smallville fans know for playing Lana Lang on the superhero show. TVLine reports that Kreuk will play Charlie, who’s described as a refined, former debutante who enjoys a privileged life alongside her husband, Hubble, played by Good Witch alum Marc Bendavid.
Kristin Kreuk’s new role comes only a few months after the cancellation of her legal drama Burden of Truth. The CBC show, which aired in the U.S. as part of The CW’s summer programming slate, ran for four seasons before being cancelled. With Jack Reacher, Kreuk joins a cast that also includes the likes of What We Do in the Shadows‘ Harvey Guillén and The Rookie’s Currie Graham. Meanwhile, Scorpion alum Nick Santora is set to write the show and serve as showrunner.
Although Alan Ritchson and Kristin Kreuk’s Smallville characters mostly remained in separate orbits, it will be nice to see the two act alongside each other on Jack Reacher. And Kreuk should make for an excellent addition to the cast. The Canadian actress beautifully played Lana Lang and, over the course of that series, she transformed the character from a soft-spoken girl next door to a strategic and powerful woman. Since leaving that series, Kreuk has continued to take on new roles with her work in the aforementioned Burden of Truth and The CW’s Beauty and the Beast.
Jack Reacher, based on the character created by author Lee Child, is primed to be yet another action-packed series for Amazon Prime. The show should stand firmly alongside the suspenseful Jack Ryan, a show that some commonly confuse with the Reacher property.
Fans have yet to get an official look at the upcoming Jack Reacher adaptation, but we have learned a few details regarding how it will be adapted. Alan Ritchson recently revealed that the plan is for the show to adapt a different book every season, which is a pretty smart way to handle the upcoming show.
It remains to be seen how things pan out for Amazon Prime’s Jack Reacher but, based on what we’ve learned about it so far, the show is assembling some key pieces that could make it successful. And with this latest casting, the show may have, at the very least, gained a small sum of Smallville fans as potential viewers.
