Bullying accusations have been flying nonstop since Chrissy Teigen’s past behavior on social media has come to light. Teigen made a public apology in an attempt to make amends for her words, but it didn’t stop the accusations from piling on further. Project Runway’s Michael Costello claimed earlier this week that Teigen got him blacklisted from the fashion industry and even has made him feel suicidal over the years. However, in a new statement, Teigen is doubling down on her belief that his claims are allegedly lies.
To recap a bit, after Michael Costello described his experience with Chrissy Teigen, he was met with his own backlash. Among other celebs to weigh in was singer Leona Lewis, who came forward and said Costello “humiliated” her years prior by dropping her fitting for a charity dress at the last minute. Then Costello was met with allegations that Teigen's team made to Business Insider, in which her reps alleged that the DMs Costello provided were fake. A back-and-forth between Michael Costello and John Legend ensued over the bullying claims. Now, the Lip Sync Battle host is addressing the situation directly and, true to form, she isn’t holding back.
In a new Instagram post on Friday night, Chrissy Teigen provided a statement with her own screengrabs of DMs that allegedly took place between her and Costello. From what can be seen, their conversation appears as a harmless, friendly exchange, which contrasts starkly to Costello’s DMs that show Teigen saying, among several things, that he should “suffer and die.” The caption reiterated the belief that Costello's DMs were faked, that he was “causing actual pain,” and even implied legal action would be taken. As mentioned, Chrissy Teigen’s statement came after Michael Costello's exchange with her husband, John Legend. Costello told Legend on Twitter that he could understand his defense of family but still didn't back down from the allegations. In one of Legend’s replies, he said, “Bruh. Stop. You know you made all this up. Please just stop.”
The last statement in this bullying saga, so far, came from Michael Costello on his Instagram. In it, he described everything as a “nightmare” and a “messy situation.” He also said:
The fact that Chrissy Teigen and her crisis team are working so hard, so strategically to come out against the DMs she sent me, and to downplay the comment she publicly posted on my Instagram, only proves that she is the same bully she always has been, despite her fake apology to the public.
In his post, Michael Costello also wrote that he wouldn't be commenting further and that he was taking a break from social media to protect his mental health. A few more celebs chimed in on his post, offering support. Actress Taryn Manning said, “Gosh, I so know this obstacle. You both will be ok!”
The situation has clearly turned into a bullying allegations roundabout, with some already facing consequences as a result. It's hard to know who's exactly telling the truth and, at this point, one can only imagine how the dispute will ultimately be resolved.
