The WWE is returning to normal and, now that it's getting back to live shows with fans and touring, there's an intention to restore the product to its former glory. Reports have signaled the brand is hoping to make SummerSlam 2021 the biggest one yet but, to fill the massive Allegiant Stadium, the WWE will need an equally massive lineup of matches. It seems like that may be what's coming as reports indicate Vince McMahon is in contact with one of its biggest superstars to return.
A new report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful has indicated that the WWE has officially begun talking to Brock Lesnar, with the intention to work out a new contract for appearances. Lesnar's last WWE contract reportedly expired back in August of 2020, and there was a period of time in which it was unknown whether he'd sign with the company again or join up once again with the UFC. Again, this is all reported information, so there's been no confirmation by the WWE that any of this is official.
If Brock Lesnar is headed back to the WWE, there are a few interesting directions for the wrestler to pursue. The biggest being that his longtime rival Roman Reigns is the Universal Champion, although things are different than they were in the past. Reigns is now being managed by the infamous advocate Paul Heyman, who was often partnered with Lesnar during many of his WWE runs. Lesnar also holds the record for the longest title reign of the Universal Championship, so him going after Reigns would make sense from a story perspective.
It's also noteworthy that Bobby Lashley has made a couple of public comments about a match against Brock Lesnar and, seeing as he's the WWE Champion, that's another avenue that can be pursued. Both Lashley and Lesnar have past experience in the world of mixed martial arts, which could be played on for a title match between the two in the WWE.
Plus, a match with Bobby Lashley would prevent a feud in which two Paul Heyman guys are going head to head. Instead, there's a possibility that the WWE could lay the groundwork for two wrestlers managed by Heyman to be in control of the brand's two largest titles. There are a lot of interesting routes the WWE could go should talks with Brock Lesnar culminate in a new contract, and almost all of them mean great things for the future.
Rumors of Brock Lesnar's return come on the heels of other reports that allege John Cena is also in talks for a return at SummerSlam 2021. In those rumors, it was teased that Cena would challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship, so it could be possible that the WWE would ultimately want Lesnar to face Bobby Lashley if he's also slated for SummerSlam. That may all depend on how quickly a deal could get worked out and what it entails.
