Sometimes the Internet can be a deep, dark place, but other times it can connect the dots between key pieces of information in ways that can be hilarious, cringe-y, or sometimes both. Recently a TikTok user was doing what TikTok users do best, that is perusing TikTok, when she came across a Paris Hilton video that reminded her of a Kim Kardashian moment she’d seen on reality TV many moons ago. She called it out and I really can’t get enough.
TikTok user ItsShannonBurns was perusing around on the interwebs the other day when she saw socialite and former reality star Paris Hilton reading a segment from her own book about how to be an heiress. In the book, one of the mantras Hilton lives by is “why have one cellphone when you can have many?” Kind of amusing, but why this is hilarious will become clear. Take a look.

Why is this remotely interesting? While many of us don’t carry around five phones due to the expense and all of the coltan problems surrounding a proliferation of mobile devices, Paris Hilton did. She said in her book that she did so in order to conveniently lose the devices if she didn't want to deal with other celebs and socialites trying to get ahold of her. This would be seemingly innocuous, except a while back, there was a clip of Keeping up with the Kardashians’ Kim Kardashian trying to “keep up” with her pal and not getting a text back. What was Paris Hilton’s response? “I have like five phones, so it could be one of those.”
Paris Hilton really was one of the major figures spawning the reality TV craze in the early aughts with her reality debut A Simple Life opposite Nicole Richie and follow-ups such as Paris Hilton's My New BFF and The World According to Paris. While she says she still fields reality series pitches nearly every day, it was in the early 2000s that she was the hot name and Kim Kardashian was kind of her pal and hangar on. Kardashian herself has acknowledged she owes her career to Hilton and she “totally acknowledge[s] that.”
The two are still friendly, and Kardashian appeared in a music video with her former pal back in 2019. Still, given how things have changed over the years, the TikTok above is really satisfying from multiple angles. It's super watchable and a good effort from user Shannon Burns to have connected those dots.
Paris Hilton’s own TikTok recently featured some other gems including “fear nothing but insects” and “normal hours are for normal people. Anyone can be normal.” So, it’s clear she’s still living her best life. If you’re looking for additional advice from an heiress, there’s plenty more where that came from.

Keeping up with the Kardashians just recently ended its own reality run, though it’s worth pointing out the entire Kardashian clan already has a deal with Hulu coming up. We’ll have to wait and see what that partnership produces, but for now I’m just hopeful some more gems from the Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton friendship era resurface. TikTok can be a beautiful place.
