Loki’s Owen Wilson Isn’t Actually Into Jet Skis As Much As You Might Think
As seen in the first two episodes of Loki, Owen Wilson’s Mobius has a kind of fascination with knick-knacks and everyday objects – but while snow globes and branded pens may catch his eye, there is one thing that he seems to be more passionate about than anything: Jet Skis. In “The Variant,” the character delivers what could be described as a soliloquy about the aquatic conveyances, and laments that more time isn’t dedicated to respecting their awesome-ness. It’s a speech conveyed with a lot of sincerity and heart about an activity that a lot of people enjoy… which is why it may surprise you to learn that the actor in truth isn’t much of a Jet Ski guy.
I interviewed Owen Wilson earlier this month during the virtual press day for Loki, and having seen Episode 2 and heard his lovely tribute to jet skis I asked him if he had gotten the opportunity to ride one since completion of production on the Marvel Studios series. I was curious if his appreciation of the machines had increased as a result of playing the character – but it turns out that there is a particular aspect of the Jet Ski experience that he has a hard time getting over. In his own words,
So if you were planning to get Owen Wilson a Jet Ski and/or a leaf blower for his next birthday, that’s something that you might want to reconsider and get him something else. Or at least pair them with a set of noise-cancelling headphones (preferably waterproof ones).
Not being an individual who hates fun, Owen Wilson continued by adding that he does enjoy actually riding on Jet Skis – throwing in a Greek god reference for good measure – but also further emphasized that they aren’t terrific contributors to a peaceful experience. Said Wilson,
Now I have been on a jet ski; when you're on it, it's great. It's pretty exciting, you feel like Poseidon. The problem is, is if you're standing on the shore being subjected to it, it's not the greatest. It's not Walden's Pond.
Mobius’ love of Jet Skis is just one of many things that Marvel fans have quickly grown to appreciate about the character, and very soon we’ll have the opportunity to watch the next chapter of his story. The third episode of Loki will be going live on Disney+ at midnight PST/3am EST tonight – so be sure to watch, and then come back here to CinemaBlend for our full coverage.
