It’s been years in the making, but Ewan McGregor is finally making his return to the Star Wars franchise as Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi in an eponymous limited series. The Disney+ show is currently in production, and the hype for the show is only building. Unfortunately, not much is known about the plot, other than the fact that the story takes place ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith and will see Obi-Wan in hiding. With this, rumors have been circulating about the show, and a recent one alleges that some deadly characters could play into the story.
Star Wars fans likely know that during the 20-year gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, the galaxy is a dangerous place, especially if you’re a Jedi. This is mostly due to the Inquisitorius, a group of Jedi hunters established by the Galactic Empire. Now, Making Star Wars alleges that the group will have a presence on Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi. The site specifically claims that Kenobi will come to blows with at least one Inquisitor during his time on Tatooine.
This report should absolutely be taken with a grain of salt at the moment. Though when considering the aforementioned circumstances relating to this time in the Star Wars timeline, it would make sense for an Inquisitor or two to pop up. Should any of them actually appear on the show, it would mark the first time that any would actually make the jump to the live-action realm.
So far, Emperor Palpatine’s Inquistorious has had a heavy presence within the worlds of animation, comic books and video games. Star Wars Rebels arguably helped to get the characters on fans’ radars, while comic book series like Charles Soule’s 2017 Darth Vader run helped to further flesh out the group. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order also served as a nice showcase for the characters’ cunning and powerful abilities.
If an Inquisitor were to show up on Obi-Wan Kenobi, one would also have to wonder which specific assassin could come in to cause trouble for the beloved Jedi. The obvious choice would be the Grand Inquisitor from Star Wars Rebels. A former Jedi Temple guard, the powerful swordsman eventually fell to the dark side and would become a problem for Kanan Jarrus, Ezra Bridger and their allies. You can check out Rebels for yourself by streaming it on Disney+, which you can sign up for using this link.
The Grand Inquisitor was voiced by Harry Potter alum Jason Isaacs and, coincidentally, the actor has shared thoughts on possibly reprising the role in live-action. Isaacs previously seemed enthusiastic about the idea, even saying he’s “open to anything.”

It’ll be interesting to see how things pan out for Obi-Wan Kenobi and whether an Inquisitor actually appears. But regardless of that, there should be plenty of other surprises to delight fans when Ewan McGregor’s character makes his return to the cosmic franchise.
