Big Sky Just Resolved A Huge Cliffhanger Months Before The Season 2 Premiere
Big Sky wrapped its bloodbath of a first season on ABC back in May with a bunch of cliffhangers, and the fates of multiple characters very much in question. The show will return with Season 2 in September, but now fans can check one of those cliffhangers off the long list of things to worry about after the Season 1 finale. One character whose life was in the balance is evidently going to be among the living! Fans can prepare to see more of Mark Lindor.
Mark Lindor, played by Omar Metwally, is a U.S. Marshal who arrived on the Big Sky scene to help Cassie and Jenny in their pursuit of Ronald, but he seemed like he was on death's door (if not dead already) when last seen in the Season 1 finale. Now, TVLine reports that Metwally is not only returning to Big Sky for Season 2, but will be a series regular. Unless Big Sky intends to exclusively use his character in dream sequences and/or hallucinations after his death, I think it's safe to say that he survives his injuries from Season 1!
News that Omar Metwally is on board Season 2 as a regular (in a promotion from Season 1) comes shortly after ABC announced the fall premiere dates for some of its biggest shows of the 2021-2022 TV season. Big Sky will return to television in a brand new time slot, relocating from Tuesdays to Thursdays. That is no small deal for the series, as airing on Thursdays means that it will be grouped with Grey's Anatomy and Station 19 when it returns for Season 2 on September 30.
Admittedly, the 10 p.m. ET Thursday slot wasn't enough for Rebel to score a second season, but sharing primetime with some of ABC's biggest hits has to be a good thing for Big Sky when it picks up, probably right where it left off with so many cliffhangers. Mark Lindor's fate wasn't the only one that was uncertain, and his survival felt a whole lot less guaranteed than Jenny's prior to the good news about Omar Metwally's series regular status.
Pretty much everybody was in rough shape on Big Sky when the big "TO BE CONTINUED" card flashed across the screen in the finale, so some spoilers were probably inevitable once the time came to start production and people had to be brought back... or not brought back. Cassie at least was still up and about, and she stole a cop car to go after Ronald and Scarlet, lacking her usual allies but packing some serious weaponry and a major grudge.
Then again, Big Sky did successfully promote itself as a show starring Ryan Phillippe without spoilers leaking that Phillippe's character would be killed off in the very first episode of the series, so there could be plenty of surprises in store. See what happens next on Big Sky with the Season 2 premiere on Thursday, September 30 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC, following the Season 18 premiere of Grey's Anatomy at 9 p.m. and the Season 5 premiere of Station 19 at 8 p.m.
