Marvel Studios is ramping things up on both the big and small screens, with their movie slate finally back in action with Black Widow, and continued development on all the upcoming MCU shows heading to Disney+. The new She-Hulk series is getting some serious buzz already, due in part of Jameela Jamil's recent casting, and now it's been announced that Arrow alum Josh Segarra is trading out DC for Marvel for a new role.
Josh Segarra portrayed Arrow's villainous Adrian Chase, a.k.a. Prometheus, in the later seasons of The CW superhero flagship series, and he has now joined Marvel and Disney+’s She-Hulk in a currently unknown role, as reported by Deadline. The series will follow Orphan Black vet Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters, as an attorney who has hulking powers not so different from her Avengers cousin, Bruce Banner, better known as The Hulk. The legal comedy also stars Renée Elise Goldsberry and Ginger Gonzaga, with Mark Ruffalo already tapped to reprise his iconic role.
This casting marks Josh Segarra being the latest actor to appear in both DC and Marvel projects, and despite the two being competitors, the list is always growing, whether it’s with actors, writers, directors or producers. Since Segarra played such a devious villain on Arrow, will that carry forward to set him up as a DC baddie on She-Hulk? Or will that creative team flip sides to make him one of Jennifer’s allies? Since his role isn’t yet known, it’s obviously hard to tell, but hopefully we'll get some answers long before the episodes arrive on streaming.
Meanwhile, Josh Segarra has been a busy actor across movies, TV shows, theater and video games in recent years, though with the most notable roles hitting on the episodic side of things. In the two years since he last appeared on Arrow, Segarra recurred on CBS' FBI and starred in Fox's The Moody's and Netflix's AJ and the Queen. But now he's returning to the world of superheroes by adding She-Hulk to his resume.
This latest casting also means that She-Hulk is one step closer to starting production, and fans aren’t the only ones excited. Last month, the original Incredible Hulk star Lou Ferrigno shared some advice for new She-Hulk Tatiana Maslany regarding her portrayal, as well as what to expect while playing such an iconic and powerful character. It’s nice knowing how supportive he is, considering he’s previously had choice words for Marvel about his distaste for some of the choices the studio has made when it comes to his beloved character.
So far She-Hulk is expected to make her debut on Disney+ next year, but no premiere date has yet been teased. With the ever-expanding cast and the comedically legal tone of the series, She-Hulk won’t be quite like WandaVision, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, or Loki, although it stands to reason the series will find ways to hit notes as serious as ones struck by the aforementioned trio, even with Rick & Morty alum Jessica Gao as the head writer.
