If you haven't been clued in to the wonders of Sex Education, you are truly missing out. While Netflix has more than its share of great shows for audiences to try, the naughty, teen dramedy features many joys for viewers to behold. The series (which deals with a gaggle of teens and their parents, and everyone's issues with sex, love, and relationships) is far sweeter than one might imagine, and manages to actually deal with a number of real problems that kids of today (and even yesteryear) have to figure out how to handle while growing up in a world largely obsessed with the horizontal hula and everything that goes along with it.
After what has felt like and interminably long break after Season 2 hit Netflix back in mid-January 2020, Sex Education Season 3 is ready to come roaring back to give us more of the awkward laughs and adorable professions of love that have made the show one that fans and critics alike can't wait to binge.
Here are some quick things we know about Sex Education Season 3!
Sex Education Season 3 Will Premiere On September 17
It won't be long now! After an extended delay in filming during 2020 that took place for obvious reasons, Sex Education is nearly completely ready for fans. The show will drop all of Season 3 on Friday, September 17, 2021. While that date is already fast approaching at the time of this writing, you still have time to catch up. Each of the first two seasons are only eight episodes long, and you will likely find that once you start watching you'll have a difficult time not binging the entire show.
And, once you're done with those, know that Season 3 will also be comprised of eight episodes, and you will undoubtedly want to catch up with the gang at Moordale Secondary School, considering how Season 2 ended.
Sex Education Season 3 Will Include Asa Butterfield, Gillian Anderson, And More Returning Cast Members
While the main focus of Sex Education has always been on sexually insecure teen Otis (Asa Butterfield), his sex therapist mom Jean (Gillian Anderson), and Otis' friends Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) and Maeve (Emma Mackey), not only will they all be back for the new season, but many of the large cast of secondary and recurring players are set to return, as well. This includes troubled former student Adam (Connor Swindells), his ex-girlfriend Aimee (Aimee Lou Wood), stressed swimming champ Jackson (Kedar Williams-Stirling), and his friend / tutor Viv (Chinenye Ezeudu).
We'll also be seeing more of alien obsessed Lily (Tanya Reynolds), her girlfriend (and Otis' ex) Ola (Patricia Allison), Adam's parents (Samantha Spiro, Alistair Petrie), and cool / mean kids Olivia (Simone Ashley), Ruby (Mimi Keene), and Anwar (Chaneil Kular), among others.
Who's New To The Sex Education Cast?
Even with this already impressive list of cast members, there was, apparently, room to grow when it came to Sex Education Season 3. According to TV Line, there have been four important new characters added for the new set of episodes, and at least two of them should be very recognizable to viewers. First, Moordale now has a new headteacher, Hope Haddon, who is being played by Girls alum Jemima Kirke. She'll be joined by Harry Potter franchise and Star Trek: Discovery star Jason Isaacs, who has taken on the role of Peter Groff, Adam's incredibly successful and less-than-modest uncle.
Season 3 will also welcome Breeders star Indra Ové, who portrays Anna, the new foster mom to Maeve's much younger half-sister. Plus, Sex Education will see the acting debut of singer Dua Saleh. They take on the part of new nonbinary student Cal, who will clash with Hope's vision for the future of Moordale.
What Will Sex Education Season 3 Be About?
If you recall, Season 2 of the Netflix hit dropped some bombshells on the audience that will be picked right up when the new season takes off. Be warned, though, we're about to get into SPOILER TERRITORY, so if you still need to catch up, here's your chance to back away from this ill-advised house party right now!

One of the biggest surprises from the Sex Education Season 2 finale was the reveal that Jean is now faced with a sudden, rather late in life pregnancy, and we are going to see just what the single mom of a nearly grown Otis is going to do about her major news when the series returns. On top of that, Otis (who finally told Maeve how he felt in a voicemail last season) will now be having casual sex, after spending the early part of Season 2... enjoying his own company A LOT, shall we say.
Things will, for a time, be much more settled for Eric and Adam. The new couple are now fully official, after Adam interrupted the school's (very weird alien, penis and vulva heavy) play to tell the whole assembled audience that he wanted to hold Eric's hand, and then being introduced to Eric's mom and sisters.
Aimee, who was seriously shaken by a sexual assault on the bus while on her way to school in Season 2, has (with the help of Maeve, Viv, and the other girls) dealt with some of her fear, and she will still be on the road to recovery this year, as she discovers what a feminist viewpoint has to offer her. Jackson is going to find himself harboring a mighty big crush (and I can't decide if I want this to be on Viv or not), and the specter of that voicemail from Otis (remember that it was deleted by Maeve's jealous neighbor, Isaac, before she had a chance to listen to it) "still looms," according to the official logline.
That logline continued, and noted that fans are going to also be treated to "commitment animals, alien phenomena, vulva cupcakes and much more of Madam Groff," so it sounds like we can expect a lot of drama, teen (and adult) angst, sweet love stories, sex, and just as much wackiness as before!

Netflix finally released a perfectly odd teaser for Sex Education Season 3, that masquerades as a Moordale advertisement to try and entice new students to enroll in the school (which might be a bad idea, when thinking about Season 2's chlamydia outbreak).
