As Good Witch Finale Airs On Hallmark, When Calls The Heart Star Reveals Show Is Finally Gearing Up For Season 9
It’s Good Witch Sunday, the very last Good Witch Sunday in fact. Just a short while after Hallmark cancelled the long-running series, the finale is already hitting the airwaves. But next up, Hallmark has some more TV programming coming down the pipeline. In August, we’ll be getting the new season of Chesapeake Shores, but if you can hold onto your horses -- get it-- a little longer, When Calls The Heart has also officially gotten Season 9’s production off the ground.
Star Erin Krakow was the first to announce the news this month, first sharing her plane flight back to Hope Valley, or rather, the location in Canada where When Calls The Heart films. We already know Hallmark has safety restrictions and protocols in place for actors and crew members heading to set. Thus, it took several days, but Krakow shared her first look back in Elizabeth Thornton’s shoes on Instagram this week.
She isn’t the only returning cast member to be jazzed about where Season 9 seems to be going. While a love triangle (and backlash related to the love triangle) dominated the news in Season 8, Season 9 should hone in on a lot more plotlines for some of the other characters, including Pascale Hutton’s Rosemary and her onscreen husband Lee, played by Kavan Smith. The two have been trying to figure out what their married life would look like without Rosemary getting pregnant and hopefully this will be more of a focal point moving forward.
Pascale Hutton was actually one of the first cast members to show her character back in costume for When Calls The Heart Season 9, and she shared a post featuring the mask-wearing still going on on set when the Hallmark actors are not filming. I gotta say, it does take you out of the early 1900s spirit of things, but it’s good to see Rosemary back in action (and that the show is ensuring that filming can go off without a hitch).
So things are gearing up and really gaining momentum for Season 9 of the series. While we don’t have a premiere date, it’s certainly something to look forward to. For now, Good Witch’s finale is already here quicker than I anticipated. Next up, Chesapeake Shores will make its triumphant return for Season 5 on August 15--and we already know there will be a big storyline related to Jesse Metcalfe's exit to boot. Hopefully we’ll have new When Calls The Heart somewhat soon after, though it’s worth noting that once Chesapeake Shores ends we’ll be butting up against Hallmark’s infamous Christmas movies season.
When Calls The Heart has typically aired some sort of special holiday event episode, though that’s fallen off the last couple of seasons. The show often picks up in the winter and runs through spring after Hallmark’s holiday season movies have run the gamut. So I’d say we'll likely expect new WCTH in early 2022 and the rest of the stuff I already noted to (likely) be the timeline for all of Hallmark’s upcoming content as we say goodbye to Good Witch 13 years after the first Hallmark original movie aired in 2008.
