A Kevin Hart TV Series Is Getting A Streaming Service Revival
Kevin Hart has long since reached the stage of his career where he's surpassed being only a stand up comedian in most people's eyes. The famous funny man has starred in a number of beloved movies just in the past decade, with titles like the Jumanji franchise and Central Intelligence on his resume, is currently delivering even more laughs on Peacock with Snoop Dogg for their Olympic coverage, and there are also many upcoming Kevin Hart movies in the works. Now, though, the comedian / actor / producer is headed back to television (but definitely not into space) for a streaming revival of one of his shows.
Even though Kevin Hart's acting career has led to him being seen mostly as a movie star, the entertainer has been involved with several TV shows since he got his first acting credit 20 years ago. According to Variety, Hart is now working on a revival of a show he helped create, and will be bringing Real Husbands of Hollywood back to the small screen on streaming service BET+. Even better, original series stars, Hart, Boris Kodjoe, Nick Cannon (who recently weathered quite the prank from Hart), Duane Martin, Nelly, JB Smoove, Robin Thicke, Cynthia McWilliams, and Jackie Long will all be returning for the six-episode limited series.
The Real Husbands of Hollywood revival will, once again, be executive produced by Kevin Hart, along with Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon, Dave Becky, Stan Lathan, Bryan Smiley, Mike Stein, Andy Horne, and Ralph R. Farquhar, who created the original idea with Hart and Chris Spencer.
Real Husbands of Hollywood began as a sketch for the 2012 BET Awards and eventually became a series, airing on BET for five seasons, from 2013 through 2016. The comedy, which also aired two specials, was intentionally filmed as though it was part of Bravo's The Real Housewives franchise, and featured Kevin Hart and the other married celebrities in the cast playing fictionalized versions of themselves as they mixed, mingled, and went about their (often surreal) daily lives in the famous city.
While we don't know of any particular plots the limited revival of Real Husbands of Hollywood will cover, the original series did frequently focus on Kevin Hart and his on-screen persona's barely contained jealousy whenever his friends got opportunities he didn't. The RHOH Kevin was also constantly trying to scale Hollywood's celebrity ladder, often to humiliatingly unsuccessful results.
Anyone who checked out Real Husbands of Hollywood even just a couple of times back in the day will know that while the main cast was already packed with stars, each episode had its fair share of cameos and guest appearances from famous people, as well. Some of the celebrity guests on the series included Keenen Ivory Wayans, Cedric the Entertainer, Wanda Sykes, Conan O’Brien, Nia Long, Johnny Depp, Keke Palmer, Common, Mariah Carey, Katie Couric, and the aforementioned Snoop Dogg. The new RHOH is also set to feature a wide range of famous guests, though none of those have been revealed just yet.
We don't know right now when Real Husbands of Hollywood will hit BET+, but it sounds like the show, with Kevin Hart and the original cast returning, should hit all the right notes when it does.
