90210 Spinoff Updates: Brenda And Kelly Together Again
More updates about Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty’s involvement in the new 90210 have been surfacing all over the place. TV Guide’s Will Keck has reported some updates, which will be included in the latest issue of the magazine (set to hit stands on Thurday, 8/21). Keck spoke with Garth about what it’s like working with Doherty after all these years. As many know, Doherty didn’t leave the original series on good terms and many have speculated that there would be much awkwardness on the set of the spinoff.
On working with Doherty again, Garth told Keck, “I’m not much of a small talker, and I don’t think she is either. I was a little nervous because I hadn’t seen or talked to her in 14 years. Everyone was making it out to be such a big deal that I think we both fell prey to having that affect us.” Actor Ryan Eggold commented on how things are going between Garth and Doherty, saying “They started off kind of tentative, but by the time we were five takes in, they were giggling and seemed to be reconnecting.”.
Not only are the two working together but it looks like their characters are going to be living together. E! Online’s Kristin Dos Santos is reporting that her sources say in the spinoff, Kelly reaches out to Brenda, asking her to return to good old West Bev to direct the school musical. Dos Santos also said they’ll be living together temporarily. This should be interesting.
One of the things Garth brought up in her interview with TV Guide was her disappointment that Spelling won’t be joining the cast of the spinoff. Rumor has it Spelling backed out after she found out Garth and Doherty were making significantly more money per episode than she was. Garth said she loves Tori like a sister and encourages fans to launch a “Bring Back Donna Martin” campaign.
So what say you, 90210 fans? Does the new 90210 need Donna Martin? I can’t say that Donna was one of my favorite characters on the original 90210 series but since becoming shamefully addicted to Tori Spelling’s reality series, I have to admit that I’ve warmed up to the actress and was disappointed to hear the news that not only was she not going to be in the spinoff but that the reason behind her choice was because the execs weren’t willing to pay her the same as the other two actresses. I say give Spelling her dues! Donna Martin graduates!!!!
