ABC Axes Knights To Make Room For Repeats
It all came crashing down for Donal Logue (‘Grounded For Life’, American Splendor) and his ‘Knights Of Prosperity’ costars yesterday when ABC announced it would be replacing future episodes of the series with reruns of ‘According To Jim’ and ‘George Lopez.’ It’s a terrible day for any actor when his show gets canceled; but when it gets canceled to make room for previously seen episodes of ‘According To Jim’, it’s time for lots of Prozac and a bottle of Jack Daniels.
‘Knights of Prosperity’ premiered this fall with an intense advertising campaign and above average reviews, but it never was able to gain much steam after ABC executives pitted it against Fox juggernaut ‘American Idol.’ ABC is not expected to comment on why they shoved hundreds of promotional ads down viewers throats and then placed ‘Knights’ into the dreaded “guaranteed death slot” opposite ‘Idol.’ ‘Knights Of Prosperity’ followed Logue and a ragtag group of thieves who intended to rob Rolling Stone’s front man Mick Jagger. Every time one of their plots was foiled, they would encounter a new celebrity to set their sights on. This created untold possibilities for future plotlines and guest stars.
Someone tell me how ‘According To Jim’ is funnier than ‘Knights Of Prosperity.’ Honestly, I cannot figure it out. Tune in this week as Jim Belushi spends half the episode complaining about how his Mountain Dew is just out of reach. Was ‘Knights of Prosperity’ great? No. But with a little more time and direction, it could have been something special.
