ABC Family, the network that miraculously didn’t flounder, has announced plans for two new original series and two movies. To be sure, this won’t be the edgy and innovative material you may expect from ABC primetime shows. Except sap like ‘October Road,’ that would probably fit quite well on ABC Family. This summer will bring a show about life in frats and sororities, plus ABCF’s first cartoon series about cats who are neither Heithcliffe nor Garfield.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, in July ‘Greek’ premieres to tell the story of what it’s like inside, and out, of the Greek system on college campuses. Don’t expect PCU antics or anything approaching debauchery. The series will star Jacob Zachar and Spencer Grammer, which is like announcing that the stars of your new show are living people. The star appeal isn’t there. ‘Slacker Cats’ doesn’t rely on star power, as it’s an animated show. The show comes to us from some creative minds over in Britain, the place which unleashed both ‘The Office’ (Yay!) and ‘Idol’ (Eh…) on the world. ‘Slacker Cats’ will showcase the lives of Buckley and Eddie, two silly cats. Add in just one more and we might have three cool cats.

ABC Family has plans for 10 new movies this year. ‘Holiday in Handcuffs’ stars Mario Lopez and Melissa Joan Hart. Stop everything, if AC Slater is in it then there’s no question that it’ll rock. Maybe he should have tried the old handcuff trick to procure the love of Kelly Kapowski. You’ll also have to forgive my inept understanding of the Hart family, but isn’t she a bit young for Lopez? ‘Snow Globe,’ about a woman who enters a snow globe is also in production. I’m not sure what that means, but for inspiration they should check out Pixar’s short animation feature about a snowman in a snow globe.

In returning series news ‘Kyle XY’ gets 13 new episodes starting June 11, ‘Lincoln Heights’ chimes in with 10 episodes in September, and finally ‘Wildfire’ returns in January. Last, and certainly not least, ABC Family will premiere Pixar’s The Incredibles on basic cable.
