New ABC Family Series Sophie Airs This Month
ABC Family’s got a new half-hour comedy set to premiere later this month. Sophie centers on a woman who has everything and all of it comes crashing down, leaving her to pick up the pieces. We’ve got a video promo and some photos from the premiere episode, which airs on Monday, March 23rd (9:30 – 10:00 PM ET/PT).
According to ABC Family, Sophie follows Sophie Parker, a gorgeous, smart talent agent with a great job, a great boyfriend, great friends and a baby on the way. Then her boyfriend Rick dumps her right as the baby’s about to be born. What’s worse, he leaves her for her best friend Melissa, who also happens to be Sophie’s biggest client at the talent agency where she works. And to make matters worse, Rick decides to start up a talent agency of his own, stealing most of Sophie’s clients in the process. In a very Jerry McGuireesque move, he leaves Sophie with one client, a difficult aging actress named Estelle. Now Sophie has to deal with being a single mom and managing her tough client, all while trying to get over what her best friend and boyfriend did to her. Let the hilarity begin!
The premise sounds like kind of a downer but based on the promo below and ABC Family’s reputation for blending heart and comedy in their series (see Greek for a great example of that), I think this could be a really fun show. Sophie stars Natalie Brown, Sebastian Spence, Jeff Geddis, Amy Lalonde, Mimi Kuzyk, Sara Botsford, Chantelle Chung and Catherine Bérubé.
