ABC Gets Dirty

Despite a looming writers strike, ABC’s Dirty Sexy Money is the most recent graduate of the “additional scripts” school, according to a Hollywood Reporter story.

The primetime soap revolves around Nick (Peter Krause), who recently took over as the attorney for the wealthy Darling clan after the untimely demise of his dad in a mysterious plane crash. Donald Sutherland and Jill Clayburgh head up the snooty Manhattan-based family, and their adult children - ranging from a politician with a transexual lover to a psycho priest with an illegitimate love-child - have all the money they'll ever need, but are ridiculously screwed up.

Sutherland and Clayburgh burn up the screen together, and Krause has that what-the-heck-am-I-doing-here air about him. But you feel like he really believes he can do some good in the world, without falling prey to the seduction of money and power. We'll see.

The series has fared well in its 10 p.m. Wednesday slot, thanks to a strong lead-in with Private Practice.

Other recent grads include Carpoolers, which received a three-script order, and Samantha Who?, which received a six-script order. ABC has blessed two new dramas, Private Practice and Pushing Daisies, with full-season pickups. No word on Cavemen. Yeah, that's a shock.
