ABC Picks Up Two Comedy Pilots

Remember that show where the two guys dress up like women so they can live in apartment building? Well, from the sound of ABC’s recent pilot-pick-up, there could be another series like that headed this way.

ABC’s not calling this a Bosom Buddies re-imagining and let’s face it, that comedy series, which aired in the early ‘80’s, isn’t the only cross-dressing story ever told. All the same, judging by the premise described on The Hollywood Reporter and what I know of Bosom Buddies, it’s easy to see the similar themes. Work It (I’m cringing at that title already) follows two unemployed car salesmen who come to realize it’s to their benefit to pose as women and take jobs as pharmaceutical sales reps. Life lessons about gender roles and jokes about bras and menstruation are likely to ensue.

As I said, cross-dressing stories aren’t exactly groundbreaking. From Tootsie to Ladybugs and Just one of the Guys, we’ve seen the story told from various perspectives. With that said, depending on what writers Andrew Reich and Ted Cohen do with the series if it’s picked up, and who they get to star in it (Colin Hanks, anyone?) there could be something to this story. Or it could be more of the same. Even then, the subject of which gender has it hardest never really tires, right?

Also on the pilot front, ABC picked up Lost and Found. Written by Marisa Coughlan, the pilot follows a New York bartender and a “party girl” whose biological son, whom she gave up for adoption, returns to shake up her life.
