ABC Wants To Rob Mick Jagger
In a move that ought to work about as well as hiring David Lee Roth to replace Howard Stern, ABC is in talks to put Rolling Stones front man Mick Jagger a sitcom.
Forget for a moment that Mick has such a thick British accent that most Americans can’t understand what he’s saying, What makes anyone think Mick Jagger can act? Last I checked he was a musician. But ABC is going ahead anyway, and wants Mick for a series about a group of New Yorkers who decide they want to rob a celebrity. They pick Mick.
Weirdly enough, the show was originally titled “I Want to Rob Jeff Goldblum”, but Jeff decided he had better things to do before they started filming. For some reason, putting Jeff Goldblum in that concept suddenly makes it really funny. Replace him with Mick Jagger and it just sounds tiresome.
Unlike the Jeff Goldblum version, if negotiations pan out Mick’s name won’t appear in the title and he will only be in a few scenes. That could mean that after robbing Mick they’ll move on to robbing other celebrities. If that’s the plan, and the writing is good, this could be a pretty unique show. I’ll fight past Mick if afterwards they move on to robbing Patrick Swayze or Vin Diesel next.
