AMC Launches Hey DISH, Where's My AMC? Video Contest
If you’re a Dish subscriber who is annoyed that you can no longer watch AMC programming, here’s your chance to be heard. AMC has launched a video contest called Hey Dish! Where’s my AMC? that encourages subscribers (and even non-subscribers) to create their own viral video telling Dish they’re not pleased with the move to drop the channel.
As of June 30th, Dish no longer offers AMC or any of its family of channels. That means those who subscribe to Dish are without shows like Breaking Bad, Mad Men and The Walking Dead as well as IFC’s hit Portlandia. The negotiations over carriage fees led to Dish deciding it cost too much to keep the channels on their service, and they dropped them. That’s led to all kinds of response, including AMC’s decision to offer Dish subscribers the Breaking Bad fifth season premiere via streaming free, hoping they would be encouraged to switch providers. Mac McKean, Senior VP of Digital Services at AMC, said in a press release:
So here's your outlet. The video contest is open to any resident of the U.S., whether they are a Dish subscriber or not. The contest will select three winners. One will be AMC’s choice and will win a $4000 cash prize plus a new camera and social media exposure. Two other winners will be a People’s Choice winner and the most viewed video, and each will receive a $1000 cash prize.
Do you want your AMC? This is the chance to tell Dish you need your Don Draper fix. The contest is open through August 29th, and you can enter here. I don’t know if this will work, but I am looking forward to seeing what people come up with.
