Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Season 2 Premiere Will Feature A Very Special Guest
Agent Peggy Carter, as portrayed by Hayley Atwell, has been popping up everywhere in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since her debut in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger. Last year she was featured in her very own Marvel One Shot, earlier this year she had a brief cameo appearance in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (where she was sadly seen as old and suffering from dementia), and very soon she will be at the center of a brand new TV show, simply called Agent Carter. Before that, however, she will first be showing up on Marvel's other big network series.
The Wrap has confirmed that a crossover between Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter is set to happen even before Agent Carter is actually a show. The site is reporting that Hayley Atwell will be showing up in the second season premiere of S.H.I.E.L.D., in an episode titled "Shadows." At this point in time we have no idea exactly what her role will be in the show or even how big a presence she will have. Additionally, TV Host George Stephanopoulos will also be making an appearance, playing himself.
At the end of the first season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the entire titular organization has been destroyed and Director Coulson (Clark Gregg) has been put in charge to rebuild the agency from the ground floor up. Given that the series takes place in modern day, we can probably assume that Agent Carter's role will be limited to flashbacks, as her most interesting time period was back in the 1940s and 1950s. Thinking about this and employing logic, it's not too hard to see where the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. writers are going with this: Director Coulson will be trying to rebuild S.H.I.E.L.D. and that plot line will be put up against past scenes of Agent Carter working to first establish the secret intelligence group.
This is definitely one of the most exciting pieces of news we've heard about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Season 2, but Atwell is far from the only guest star who will be appearing in upcoming episodes. As we learned over the last couple of months, Lucy Lawless is coming aboard to play Isabelle Hartley; British actor Nick Blood will be playing Lance Hunter; Dollhouse's Reed Diamond is becoming villainous HYDRA agent Daniel Whitehall a.k.a Kraken, and Adrianne Palicki is starring as Mockingbird. Also set for a recurring role is NYPD Blue's Henry Simmons, who will be playing mechanic Alphonso "Mack" Mackenzie.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is moving time slots for its second season and will be airing at 9:00 pm EST on Tuesday nights starting September 23rd. The Agent Carter show doesn't have an official date just yet, but will be debuting at mid-season.
