Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Spinoff Has Added Adrianne Palicki And 1 More
We just learned that Marvel was considering an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff a couple of weeks ago, but it looks as if ABC and Marvel are already moving forward on the deal. Today, we learned that two actors are already in talks to star in the project, and they’ve already had some experience in the Marvel universe. Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood are currently finishing up deals to star in the potential drama.
Palicki’s a pretty famous actress, having appeared in flick’s like G.I. Joe: Retaliation and TV dramas including Friday Night Lights and About A Boy. For the last season, however, she’s been signed on with S.H.I.E.L.D., playing Bobbi Morse, a.k.a Mockingbird. Morse is a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who once infiltrated HYDRA before blowing her cover to save another agent. She later joined Coulson and his team this fall and in February the actress was promoted to a series regular. Not half bad for a chick who was almost Wonder Woman.
Nick Blood has also been a new addition to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. this season. He’s signed on as a mercenary to help rebuild the organization, but his background is anything but. He was trained and worked in the British military and has also served as part of S.T.R.I.K.E., the British version of S.H.I.E.L.D. Nick’s ex-wife happens to be none other than Bobbi Morse, so that should make an interesting dynamic on the potential spinoff.
Deadline reported the news, noting that the series is still up in the air enough that those involved don’t know if they will film a pilot or a promo. That makes sense, as we don’t know much about the spinoff so far. We do know that the upcoming episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are expected to create a jumping off point for the spinoff.
At the time of the announcement, it wasn’t clear what direction the show might be going in, but one of the angles we explored was that Palicki’s Morse might get a spinoff that would look closer at her superheroine identity. Hopefully, the next few episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will help to illuminate what direction the new series might go in.
ABC has a lot of good Marvel content in the works for next season. The network has the option to pick up S.H.I.E.L.D. for another season and the potential spinoff is in the works. Finally, ABC could pick up Agent Carter for another limited series should the network want to. If you're a Marvel fan, there’s a lot of good stuff going on.
