America's Best Dance Crew Returns Thu., Jan. 28
MTV is getting back to the dance floor with the announcement of the fifth season of Randy Jackson Presents: America's Best Dance Crew. The new season will run concurrently with the ninth season of American Idol, where Randy Jackson is a judge, which should only help ABDC. Idol airs Tuesdays and Wednesdays, while ABDC kicks off Thursday, January 28th.
We Are Heroes took the crown as the first all-female crew, while past winners have included JabbaWockeeZ, Super Cr3w and Quest Crew. There have been some absolutely amazing crews on this show, and it really offers a unique opportunity to see a style of dance not showcased on any of the other dance shows on television.
I'm not saying you don't see street dancing, but you generally don't see street crews choreographing their own routines week after week. What you get on ABDC are experts who get to create magic every week, always in their own style, and always with amazing stunts and moves.
Each season has strived to up the ante, and for the most part they've succeeded. I think the fourth season may have collectively been the weakest one, as many of my favorite crews were eliminated early, and the finalists, while good, were by no means the most dynamic of the bunch. But any show that can blow me away with the smooth movements o f the JabbaWockeez, the power of Super Cr3w and Strikers All-Stars, and the unique stylings of Southern Movement and Fanny Pak is a show that deserves a bigger audience.
Randy Jackson Presents: America's Best Dance Crew has done very well for MTV so far, but I'm looking for Season Five to blow it out of the park. They need to bring back some of the amazing crews that have been on there before, as well as spotlighting how their time on the show has helped them launch their dancing careers to new heights.
Most importantly, though, we need to see amazing crews blowing our minds with tricks and stunts we have never, ever seen before!
