American Horror Story: Coven Gets A Creepy New Title Sequence
Just as the story and cast of characters change for each new season of American Horror Story, so does the opening sequence. If there's a common thread, beyond the twisted, buzzy, drippy music, it's that the imagery all suggests that something bad is about to happen. Well, bad is a relative term, I suppose, as bad can translate to very entertaining in a horror context, which is what American Horror Story is all about. In the case of AHS: Coven, the series is all about witches, which would explain some of the female focus on the title sequence for the new season, which was shared by EW today. Also featured in the title sequence are the actors names, of course, along with strange glimpses of hooded figures, voodoo dolls and women dancing around flames.
The reveal of the title sequence is one more reminder that the series' return isn't that far off. Exactly two weeks, in fact, as the premiere date for American Horror Story: Coven is set for Wednesday, October 9 on FX.
In addition to the title sequence, FX released a couple new teasers, the first of which is titled Laveau, which just so happens to be the last name of Angela Bassett's character, Marie.
Seems innocent enough, except for the fact that the woman in the chair is out of focus… and she has a snake for legs.
And then there's this one, which is titled "Voodoo" and actually uses a different part of "House of the Rising Sun"!
Finally, FX has included an official synopsis on the series' website:
Fiona is played by Jessica Lange, and Zoe is played by Taissa Farmiga. The cast also includes Kathy Bates (as Madame LaLaurie), Sarah Paulson (Cordelia Foxx), Angela Bassett (Marie Laveau), Evan Peters (Kyle Spencer), Gabourey Sidibe (Queenie), Frances Conroy (Myrtle Snow), Emma Roberts (Madison Montgomery), Lily Rabe (Misty Day), Patti Lupone (Joan Ramsey) and Denis O'Hare as Spalding.
