American Horror Story Season 2 Spoilers: Co-Creator Confirms Location And Other Details

We’ve heard a few things about the second season of American Horror Story, though much of it has had to do with casting, and some rumors about the new setting. There’s finally some confirmation on where the series will take place for Season 2. Read no further if you don’t want to be spoiled!

What we knew for sure about Season 2 of American Horror Story was that the second season would take place somewhere different and follow a completely new set of characters, some of whom would be played by returning cast members (Jessica Lange, Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and Lily Rabe). The second season was rumored to take place at some kind of mental institution, which would certainly be a fitting backdrop for the next creepy chapter of this series.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, series co-creator Ryan Murphy spoke about the show at a panel at the TV Academy in North Hollywood, and said, "[Season 2] is set on the East Coast at an institution for the criminally insane that is run by Jessica.” So that pretty much seals up the setting for us, and it sounds full of potential.

In another interesting twist, it sounds like the story will be set in a different time period from the first season:

"It's a completely different world and has nothing to do with Season 1; there's not a mention of Season 1," he noted. "The second season is set in a completely different time period."

Between all of the flashbacks during Season 1, we know the show doesn’t shy away from toying with different eras, but it sounds like Season 2 could be a flashback in itself, assuming the “different time period” is at some point in the past.

Returning star Zachary Quinto seems enthusiastic about the opportunity to return to the series in a different role, saying:

"The notion of coming back and playing something totally different and in a totally different world with many of the same actors, it's probably one of the more exciting things that has come across my plate in recent years. I'm really looking forward to it."

Finally, for those interested to know what kind of role musician/Voice-mentor Adam Levine is playing, we may be in for something “sexy” from the character. It also sounds like Levine was immediately on board with whatever they had in mind for the role:

“I pitched him the part and he listened, slack jawed, and simply said, 'I'm in.' The second season is fun, sexy and baroque. It has a lot of meat to it; it's a really gritty part. He's with a girl and they play characters called The Lovers."

All of this information has me craving a re-watch of the first season, and very excited for Season 2 to return this fall!
