The Americans Videos Showcase Keri Russell's Character And Super Secret Spy Life
Not-quite-slowly but surely, FX has been releasing teasers and trailers for their upcoming new drama The Americans, and the more I see of it, the more hopeful I am that this will be another fantastic, must-watch FX drama. While that remains to be seen, the latest videos offer an even more intriguing look at the series and Keri Russell's character.
The Americans is set in the 80s and follows two KGB spies (Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys) posing as a married American couple in Washington, DC. Their own kids don't know who their parents really are. This first of the two new videos released has Keri Russell's character speaking about her background with her husband and it leads into some intense moments.
A lot of what we've seen in previous teasers for this show have focused on the secret lives these two people are leading and the suspenseful side of the series, but the above gives us some insight into Russell's character Elizabeth's background. She was just a teenager when she signed up for the KGB and from the sound of it, her fake husband is the only man she's ever been with. Knowing that makes me even more interested to get to know these two characters and understand the dynamic of their relationship. Do they have real feelings for one another and does that affect their work?
And this preview focuses on the nature of the work Elizabeth and her husband do, and builds up to some of the action that we should expect to see in the series.
Guns, interrogations, secret conversations, explosions, and the kids sitting at the breakfast table talking about sports and Dad's car not starting. Just your standard Americans day, I guess.
The Americans premieres Wednesday, January 30 at 10:00 p.m. ET on FX.
