Will Amy Poehler And Tina Fey Make The Golden Globes A Regular Thing?
Amy Poehler and Tina Fey have certainly been the “it” ladies at the Golden Globes over the last couple of years. After debuting as hosts in 2013, the two funnywomen signed contracts to host the popular awards ceremony in 2014 and 2015. The real question then is whether or not Poehler and Fey plan to renew their hosting contracts after this year's awards ceremony.
According to Amy Poehler, the answer is no. The Parks and Recreation star popped up on NBC’s The Today Show on Tuesday morning to talk about her new book, and ended up explaining why there will be no fourth or fifth Golden Globes stint.
For the last couple of years, Fey and Poehler have become known for their monologues, which have included George Clooney zingers, James Cameron jokes, Leonardo DiCaprio jokes and that one awesome mini sketch in the middle of the awards when the gals accused Julia Louis-Dreyfus of being a diva.
The Poehler and Fey broadcasts have done extremely well for the awards, as last year’s event was up 6% in the ratings. Additionally, their first year as hosts marked a 17% increase in viewership. It’ll be a shame to lose them.
The good news? Amy Poehler and Tina Fey will definitely be back to host the awards ceremony this January. The 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards will air on Sunday, January 11, 2015 on NBC. It should be noted that there have been some rule changes with this year’s awards, but I get a feeling Amy Poehler and Tina Fey will get around to addressing those changes in their certain- to-be-funny monologue.
Update: Tina Fey and Amy Poehler absolutely crushed their third Golden Globes hosting gigs. Take a look at some of the 2015 Golden Globes jokes here.
