Amy Schumer Would Be The Next Bachelorette Under 3 Conditions
It’s an amazing time to be an Amy Schumer fan, as the controversial comedian has been just about everywhere, crossing mediums like she crosses lines. (I’m waiting for a baffling Inside Amy Schumer PS4 game to come out at some point.) And if she can get a few particular details worked out, we might even see our weeks-in-the-making dreams come true of having Schumer leading a future season of The Bachelorette. Probably not, but maybe.
Ever since she appeared on an episode of The Bachelorette earlier this season, Schumer’s name has been floating around the rumor-sphere as a possible bachelorette, with even ABC showing their support for it last month through a Twitter job offer from one of their execs. As a fan of the show, Schumer has also been as positive as she can be for a career choice that would be unlike anything she’s done before, and she told EOnline that it would take three stipulations to get her on the show. Let’s look at them one by one.
That’s completely understandable, as financial gain from it would not only cover not being able to do whatever else Schumer might have been doing during the show’s taping, but also all of the publicity and everything else that comes along with being a bachelorette.
She pointed out that her actual chances of joining this show were on the slim side because she doesn’t have the kind of bullshit filter that shows like this usually require. Nothing about it or The Bachelor has ever felt particularly “real” to me in the times that I’ve caught an episode, and Schumer has never seemed like she was holding anything back. As such, it would be an amazingly interesting experiment to see where the balance would lie.
It’s definitely true that the contestants who come in provide some hilarity, depending on what their angles are. But it’s likely that having Schumer on board would mean altered screening scenarios would happen. It might essentially just look like Burning Love, a parody of this particular kind of reality dating show. The more comedians, the better.
For what it’s worth, The Bachelorette host Chris Harrison has already shown his support for Schumer’s requests.
So will it happen? It’s not likely, although ABC might surprise everyone by throwing down and putting a special version of the show out in the next year or so, with Amy Schumer and her guidelines front and center. Until then, be sure and check her out next month in Judd Apatow’s Trainwreck.
