Anchorman 2's Ron Burgundy Joining Canadian Sports Network
Canada oftentimes gets the short end of the original TV programming stick, at least except where the NHL and Degrassi are concerned. Soon, however, Canadian station The Sports Network (TSN) will be poaching one of San Diego’s best and brightest anchormen. That’s right, folks, Ron Burgundy is planning to stay classy in Toronto, joining the network’s team of broadcasters just before the Christmas holiday.
Many of us are familiar with Burgundy’s storytelling on the San Diego news thanks to the popular film Anchorman, a movie that propelled Burgundy and even his beloved dog, Baxter, into the national arena. When last fans left Burgundy, he had just saved the love of his life, Veronica, from a zoo emergency. We’ll soon be seeing more of his adventurous spirit, thanks to a sequel to the original film called Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. The movie’s already been heavily promoted over the last few months and will be hitting theaters on December 20.
TSN first announced the Burgundy news on Friday, but currently details on the anchorman’s engagement with the network are scant. It won’t be long before we learn more, however. TSN is prepping to explain the specifics about Burgundy’s gig on Sunday, during the live airing of 101st Grey Cup, which airs at 6 p.m. ET. Most of us in the States won’t get this airing, but as far as network publicity goes, it doesn’t get much cooler than this announcement.
Burgundy also made a statement in the new press release about the new position.
This won’t be the first time the anchorman has been making appearances on television of late. Recently, he’s popped up in a few hilarious promotions for Dodge Durango. He also appeared on Conan to talk about his love for newsworthy Toronto Mayor Rob Ford. He even sang his campaign theme song.
The publicity stunt should be a great way to tie-in to the new movie, and any excuse to see Will Ferrell dress up in a colorful suit is okay by me, especially if there are mentions of scotchy scotch scotch, bad pick-up lines, and pretty much any other inappropriate on-air comments.
