Arrow Fights Several DC Villains In NYCC Season 1 Highlight Video
Arrow, The CW's latest DC Comics' adaptation, debuted last week to big numbers. Even without the green, the superhero origin story brought in more viewers than any show on the Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, Gossip Girl network over the last three years. As for the quality of the program, well, it was good too. Eventually. The first half-hour felt like a little like a fashion show, introducing each character (and there are many) with their own turn down the catwalk, but once an actual story kicked in, Arrow's "Pilot" hinted at a promising, action packed future.
If you have any doubts about Arrow's potential, check out this "Highlight Reel" specially made for the series' New York Comic-Con panel a few hours ago. The footage, from the first nine episodes of the new series, is packed full of fighting and showcases several other DC characters, mostly villains, that are coming to Starling City.
I love how the preview opens with the logos, making it feel like a feature or event bigger than your average television series, before moving on to the intense, rapidly cut footage. For those unfamiliar with the DCU, the major players glimpsed in the trailer include China White, Deadshot, Deathstroke and Huntress as well as the mysterious 'well-dressed man' in the limousine. Last things first, the name of John Barrowman's character hasn't been revealed yet but it's probably safe to assume he's a big baddie since he's meeting with the already suspicious Moira Queen.
The first four, however, are far less mysterious with China White, Deadshot, Deathstroke and Huntress being more than familiar faces (or masks) from the DC catalogue. China White or Chien Na-Wei, played by X-2's Kelly Hu, is a drug kingpin from "Green Arrow: Year One" and the silver haired woman you see going toe to toe with Ollie. Deadshot, played by Michael Rowe, is a deadly assassin who never misses his target and can be seen rocking the goofy eyepiece while taking aim at Walter Steele (I think).
Deathstroke, played by Jeffrey Robinson, has the most exciting footage with the masked man menacing Arrow as well as torturing some dude. And Huntress, played by Jessica De Gouw is an anti-hero whose methods usually rub Batman the wrong way but since Arrow has no problem killing people, these two might become fast friends after an initial dust-up. Just a guess. She's the pretty one frequently skulking in the shadows throughout the spot. What character are you most looking forward to seeing?
Arrow airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW. Based on DC Comics' "Green Arrow," the series stars Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, Willa Holland and Colin Donnell. If you missed the series premiere, you can watch it here.
