Arrow Spinoff Legends Of Tomorrow Confirms Caity Lotz's Role
Now that Legends of Tomorrow is coming together and officially moving forward over at the CW, the network is finally filling in some of the details related to the series. The new drama will be set in a world where “heroes are not enough, “and this morning CW President Mark Pedowitz also confirmed one role within the show we’ve been asking questions about for quite some time: who Caity Lotz will be playing. As it turns out, the rumor mill has largely been correct related to the series. Legends of Tomorrow will feature Lotz playing none other than White Canary.
We’ve been hearing about the White Canary possibility for some time, but at least the network has finally now confirmed the gig. White Canary’s actually a minor DC character, a villain with martial arts skills who wreaks some havoc in the Birds of Prey series. Obviously, her background will have to be reworked to explain how Sara Lance will become the White Canary, and it looks like the Lazarous Pit is going to be used. The upfronts didn't yield any other information about the character, although the news has broken just a week after Legends of Tomorrow was picked up to series. Here's Lotz's reaction to the news breaking, complete with a picture in costume.
Lotz has been out of the superhero genre for just a little while. Her Arrow character Sara Lance was killed off in a shocking scene during the Season 3 premiere. No sooner had Sara had a friendly reunion with Oliver than she was shot up with arrows, sending her over the side of the roof where she plummeted to the ground. It was later determined that Malcolm Merlyn had taken control of Thea Queen and forced her to kill Sara. Obviously, Lance’s Black Canary has been dead and buried for some time, but the CW looks to be reworking White Canary’s comic background to work Lotz into the role.
Lotz is joining a lineup that includes a ton of other already-introduced actors and actresses in the CW world. Victor Garber is signed on as Doctor Martin Stein, a character originating on The Flash as one half of Firestorm. Arrow’s Brandon Routh, who plays Atom on that drama, is going to be a part of Legends of Tomorrow. In addition, Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, who have both played characters on The Flash, are also signed on for the new drama.
The show won’t just be a rehash of old characters, however. Ciara Renée has been added to Legends of Tomorrow playing Hawkgirl in the new series, Arthur Darvill will play Rip Hunter, and more. We won’t be getting Legends of Tomorrow until midseason, but there’s a lot to look forward to. In the meantime, here’s what the CW has coming up this summer.
