Arrow Trailer: Watch Atom Suit Up
It’s almost time for Ray Palmer to suit up superhero style on Arrow. After weeks of discussion and designing, the A.T.O.M. suit will finally be seen on-screen next week. Fans got their first look at Brandon Routh in costume several weeks back, but now we can see what it looks like within the show itself thanks to the 30 second promo for Episode 15, titled “Nanda Parbat.” Take a look!
As seen in the video, there’s a lot of exciting things happening in next week’s episode (like Malcolm Merlyn being kidnapped by Ra’s al Ghul); regardless, Ray finally completing the suit definitely ranks at the top of the list. Costumes on superhero TV shows have improved drastically since the days of the ‘60s Batman TV series, but this A.T.O.M. suit takes it to the next level. Seriously, it looks like it could belong in a movie. Slightly resembling Tony Stark’s Iron Man armor, there’s nothing about this costume that looks fake. It’s quite real-looking..well, at least as real as a powerful exoskeleton with an atom symbol engraved in the helmet can look.
The Arrow showrunners have been vague about what the suit’s capabilities are, although executive producer Marc Guggenheim did say there will be a lot of “little gadgets and tricks and abilities,” including being able to fly. Ray also hinted in a previous episode that it would be able to shoot hard-light beams, so if those weapons prove to be functional, he’ll be able to pack a serious punch against Starling City’s criminals. As for whether we’ll see Ray use the suit to shrink himself like he does in the comics, Guggenheim previously noted that fans expecting that to happen immediately will be “disappointed,” so don't get your hopes up to see Ray go microscopic in the coming weeks.
In the description for “Nanda Parbat,” it says that Ray is obsessed with finishing the suit so he can “save the city,” but Felicity, who is afraid of Ray going down the same path that Oliver has gone down, will attempt to get him out of the lab. Judging from the preview, she’ll be too late to stop him from putting on the suit, although just because he’s wearing it doesn’t mean everything will function perfectly. In fact, Ray and Felicity will be heading to Central City in Episode 18 of The Flash to seek the help of the S.T.A.R. Labs team with the A.T.O.M. suit. If I were to guess, I’d say we’ll see Ray taking on the bad guys (possibly alongside Team Arrow) at full capability by the Season 3 finale.
You can catch Ray Palmer suit up as The Atom on Arrow next Wednesday at 8/7c on the CW.
